if its too slippy just don't do it,     or start using a pole , never take a chance for a few ££££, it may be your last

Not as ped off as yourself if you came off the ladder.

Actually, Ive not had one customer that selfish to stop me using this technique to ensure my safety.

I use an old bath towel on wet decking. Works for me.

;D. That's amazing!!! What an idea, but not one I would employ.....ever. :P
I would never lean an old hammer up against my ladder thinking that it would stop the ladder slipping backwards. You need something heavier than that Matt!

if your using ladders for gutter clearing then a bag of sand will stop your ladder slipping backwards.no need to make holes in the decking!!most customers wouldnt like it IMO.

When did you last do your ladder inspection Matt?

Most times I use it Stu.

Why?

I wouldn't dream of trusting a bag of sand on some decking Daz. Wet they can be like ice rinks.

Holes in decking? Customers are going to have to take that one on the chin. Most decking is covered liberally with holes anyway, it's where it's screwed to the joists underneath.

For a one man band setup this is a great solution. Solid, safe. I'd fa r rather trust my safety to something secured than just an objects weight.

I'm with Dazmond on this one.

If a custy has just spent their hard earned money on new decking, the last thing they want is to see the window cleaner knocking 4" nails into it.

just saying matt.i have used a bag of sand years ago with no problems but i wouldnt climb a ladder on decking now anyway as i dont clear gutters generally although i do make acceptions on very rare occasions.

I was thinking that today actually Franky. It still doesn't negate the need for a ladder though, particularly if working alone. There are plenty of times even with a vac you'll need to get up there on a ladder.

There is a ladder matt from cleaning spot that will grip on any surface even ice.

If you had moved the ladder a few inches back or forward then
you could have put the nails through the gaps and into the joists.
You wouldn't see any holes after the nails where pulled out.

That is a fair point. What I do find a little funny (funny ha ha) is no-one has asked if I'd mentioned this to the client or asked them if they minded.

CIU custard police at their best.  ;D  ;D

with a good gutter vac, you don't need ladder at all!

You do if you knock an end cap off, or the down pipe is blocked past the S bend. Or the down pipe needs to be removed.

It's not like they are having their windows cleaned every month then the decking would look like a dart board. Once a year gutter cleaning at the most is hardly going to notice a couple of holes, especially if the same holes are used next time
