Hi jamie i use pixel internet  http://www.pixelinternet.co.uk/linux-hosting.html
it costs about £30 for domain name and hosting

you have to build the website yourself though .

Neil, that's extortionate.

I use tso-host, £6/year for domain name and £50/year for hosting. There are cheaper, but I don't have problems with downtime and the servers are fast enough.

www.vidahost.co.uk for hosting and everything else. £30 per year to host. No downtime as of yet, and very quick response to any queries and UK based servers.

Can I just ask if carpet cleaners on here with websites manage them yourself or have someone do it for you (for a fee) to help with SEO of your site ?

My new website is about to go live and the guy who created it has told me he can set it all up including hosting and because he is very busy at the moment will monitormy site over the next 6-12 months and give me tips/advice on how to improve its SEO...so is he really managing it ?
His fee for this is £30 per month.

I can of course manage it myself and he will show me how to go about it.

Any tips would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi terry
I've got 3 sites for 3 different areas, I pay £17.50 per month for each.
For that I get constant help and regular updates from my chap. I'm ranked very high on each and get regular work from each, so it's money well spent  ;D

James

its down to speed, when your on shared servers this slows down and google does not like slow sites so vpservers are the best way to deal with this, as an example so you share space on a server with a gaming site this is not going to help plus if you get someone thats doing bad links and you also share that ip that will not help.

Also having more than one server will give you backup if you do anything wrong yourself by mistake.

you can get a vps server for about £15 a month but just like a PC its spec that gives speed so the more you spend the faster your site will be

Terry £30 per month for him to monitor it and the tell you what to do. Seems a bit of a cheek if you ask me.

It all depends. He might be very good value.

Figuring stuff out yourself can take hours where he tells you in minutes whats wrong. Say he tells you to do a few tweaks and you go from nowhere on g. Places and getting 0 pounds from it to position A and getting £500 a month from it.

I would ask him for a portfolio or case studies, then ring up non competing but similar businesses what their return has been directly attributed to him.

Surely it would just as quick for him to tweak it for his fee rather than monitor it and have to spend time on the phone explaining and guiding Terry on what to do, he might not have the foggiest. Just seems a daft way to go about things.

Maybe when he rings you the first time he turns round and says, well I can do all this for you for X amount. Nowt wrong with that as long as people are willing to pay.

Well a concrete example would be telling him to go off say and enter his details in all the local directories in a particular way. If he does it like most people do the business owner probably will be wasting his time.

The seo guy might be doing £100 an hour he's not going to sit at his desktop and enter name address and phone on 30 sites.

I've just realised the original question was JUST hosting a monitoring. That does seem steep as any decent host will have a support service for free or at cost for premium service as has been said.

If I was hosting / maintaining I would also expect to provide daily security (anti hacking) updates.

CARPETCLEANING WEBSITES in Hull do it best.

I have a couple hosted by free virtual servers for 17 a year but they are not very good, return wise.

Try asmallorange.com hosting packages from $35 a year (£23 a year) includes unlimited sites including Wordpress. Cant go wrong for that and customer service is better than some in UK that are much more expensive. You will need to buy a domain and change nameservers to point to asmallorange but that's pretty easy to do. A .co.uk bought through 123-reg.co.uk will cost you £6.98 + VAT for 2 years.

Kind regards,
Jason.
