Title: Chewing gum removal
Post by: Rob Tutton on April 18, 2013, 03:51:25 pm
I've booked a job next week in a shop. It is 10m by 20m carpet tiles. The actual clean is not the problem, the problem is that I counted est 220 chewing gum marks on the carpet tiles.
I have removed chewing gum from carpets before but not at this volume. They need to be removed before I can clean the carpet tiles. Is there a quick way of removing them and how can i quote  ???

Wallpaper steamer and a putty knife. Sometimes you can get 5 in one go!  ;D

Solvex or Ridagum and a gumgetta i have just ordered another gumgetta from Hydramaster after i lost my old one a very useful tool.
Be careful using solvents on carpets that are glued down though if it goes through to the backing you could end up with 200 bubbles  :-[  make sure you charge accordingly too.

I use a steam gun and generally remove about 60 wads and hour

if you put bubble gum on top of chewing gum, it just pulls off!

Be cheaper to replace carpet tiles!! the prob you might have is having 220 clean spots on worn tiles.
Unless you being well paid for job could be a long time consuming exercise

As Bob said, using a solvent will create gum shaped clean spots that will really stand out, whatever you chose to do make the customer aware of possible outcomes or you could spend hours grafting for a seemingly p poor result and grief from the customer
