Watched the video. They look brilliant. I am no Alex groupie, but I am impressed the way he has focused his efforts on the most frustrating problem with Gardiner's poles. I will be buying a replacement set for my CLx27.

-
i bought a new clamp last week! >:( >:( >:( only because my pole is worn and wanted to cut off the last inch of the top section! no need anymore with the new clamp :)
Alex, you should not sell anymore the old clamps, not fair!
-
i can see my gardiner poles lasting a lot longer with these new clamps!not sure it will be good for a pole seller like alex though!!!
-
Alex,
just replaced top 3 clamps on my 3 year old pole 2 months ago, made a massive difference and am well happy,
but being an old pole, not looked after and a bit worn these new clamps are perfect for it.so my question is will we get a bit of a discount on a clamp pack like the boys who recentely bought new poles?
cheers
-
Genious. Will be good for my old MK1 SL-X.

I think that GQC must have misunderstood an email conversation that we had earlier in the day about this. You do have to saw off the clamps to replace on an older pole, but the video will show how to simply do this without losing any of the pole itself rather than having to completely saw off the end of each section (which can also be done, but loses pole length).
The new clamp bodies will need to directly replace the old clamp bodies in order to get the full operational capabilities of the new clamps.
-
When will these be released Alex? I need a set for an slx 18 and a set for an slx 22 ;D I could also do with an slx 22bace section with new clamp type also
-
Thanks Alex. I bought a new clamp last week :'( still not used but I will wait the new clamp because my top 2 sections are worn and wanted to saw off the end of each section.
With the new clamp, i don't need to do that anymore :)
-
Sorry, must have misunderstood!

About 2-3 weeks for the clamp kits as all current production is being sent straight to assembling poles.
You will not need to have a base section from an SLX22 now as we are also releasing a set of extension sections that will do this job. The SLX extension section#5 will do this job - click on the specification chart on the new SLX page to see these extension section details.

May have been my explanation at fault :)

Without actually using it or seeing it in the 'flesh', it is hard to say. There is a danger of making comments on things when you've never used them.....
It looks pretty much the same as the current one, therefore I 'imagine' it works the same and feels the same. Going by what has been stated it has just addressed some issues brought up and experienced by users over the years (5 or so.?). In that respect it seems like an upgrade rather than a 'new' pole or clamp.
It does seem a lot of the 'new features' have been lifted directly from the Phoenix specs! ;D

These clamps will certainly fit an Xtreme pole - most of the early 'white prototype' testing was done on well used Xtreme poles.
The new batch of Xtreme 18 & 25 poles will also feature these new clamps.
-
Hi Alex
The new clamps look really good in the video. I have to say though that video isnt for the faint hearted, it must of taken some will power to put a sander on a nice new pole section. What is the overall size like of the new clamps in comparison to the old ones? I've always though that this was one of your big advantages clamps that take up a fraction of the space in comparison to others.
Simon.

According to the website, the CLX II weight is TBA.
Does that suggest they will be heavier?
-
Think we should be grateful to Facelift because I think Alex has learned from their clamping system and there has been the issue with clamps needing regular adjustment on slx/clx poles for years. Is it a coincidence this has been resolved after the new Facelift poles are starting to get popular?
So thank you Alex, but also thank you Facelift for providing some good competition from which we as end users benefit from.
Please stop knocking Facelift. I understand why people do not like Stephen Fox and I remember him from years back as Foxman (not my favourite person).
-

No it doesn't - they will be the same or fractionally lighter gram per cm of extended length. However we have changed the exact extended length on nearly all poles so until we have the final production models and have weighed an average sampling we cannot say exactly what the weights are.

Naturally I have examined the Facelift clamps as we do with all competing products. I have my opinion of the facelift clamps/poles based on my experience with them and the long term testing we have done with them.
These new Gardiner Smart-Clamps have been in development for nearly two years now so their gestation period pre-dates the latest tweaked facelift clamps. The Patent application process in itself has taken many months to achieve.
As long term users of our poles will know they have been the result of constant continuous improvement. This has continued with these new models and will no doubt continue to do so.
-
Hi Alex,
Will any of the new range have an extendable top section that we should use when we have left the milk create outside the bookies, need an extra 4' or just all the time?
Will any of the range have a bag on the base section to carry some snap? (that ones a goer mate)

No, no, no Stevie boy. These babies were being created well before the Phoenix emerged!! ;)
As I've said before, it's nice to see new poles to the market as I know not long after Gardiners will shift the goalposts even further! ;D So, the "new" Phoenix is now "old hat" 8)
However, I will thank you for Wagtails. ;)

Hi Simon
It does go against the grain to purposely wreck a section! However it is not the only section I have wasted in development of these clamps and poles - can't make a cake without....
The overall size of the clamps is very similar and many people would not notice the difference when fitted to the pole. The bodies are 6mm deeper, but now stack more closely thereby actually reducing the stacked size of the clamps compared to the older poles - they are the most compact stacked clamps of any telescopic pole in the world (currently). The clamp body diameter is exactly the same. The lever arm is slightly larger, but is far more ergonomic and even easier to use and less likely to catch.

The first small batches (20 of each size) of CLX27, SLX18, SLX22 & SLX25 poles arrived today. This is the first sample batch to allow me to fully check the production team's quality and assembly resolution. I am pleased to say that they have all met my quality inspections so far today. The rest of the batch is going to be packed up and sent over in the next couple of weeks by air and these will include all of the sizes and variants.
We will not be putting these on sale until Tuesday the 7th of May as I need to have time to fully train the staff in the new poles which are completely new to them as well. I will also be spending the week finishing off the website product details and hopefully shooting some videos of the new poles to demonstrate their features.
When all of this is done then we will be ready to start selling them immediately after the Bank Holiday.
If anyone local wants to pop in and have a look at one of these initial poles they are more than welcome although a phone call before visiting is always a good idea as the firm is extremely busy and some times are much busier than others. Please note that you would not be able to buy one at this time even if calling in.
-
I think it's quite refreshing to find a company that takes the time to do it properly, rather than do it quickly. And yes I do have Gardiners Poles, but I'm no a**e licker.

-
Are these clamps glued on,i hope not!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are beautifully glued on to a very high standard. Having just inspected the new batch that has arrived I am very pleased with the quality of the application. Having examined all of the fixing options it is still our preferred method as long as the correct glue is used and the preparation and application in the factory is exactly right - all of which we have ensured with these new poles.
If you want to see me gluing on a set of these new 'Smart Clamps' to an old pole then I have just done a video tutorial for when the upgrade kits go on sale next week. Prepared and glued like this with the glue provided they will stay on for the rest of the life of the pole - http://youtu.be/oz2NiLDIn40

Hi Lee
In the future we will be stocking the new SLX Extension sections which can be purchased instead of base sections - you would need an SLX extension section#5. These will be more economical to buy and can be added to if needed. They will also feature the Smart Clamps.
These will be available to buy in about 2 weeks time - http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/The-New-SLX---Extension-Sections-SLX_EXT.html

come on,think about it, you don't need Alex for that! ;)

Alex are the clamp upgrades only available through the office? I ask because there must be plenty of us with 2 or 3 year old poles that are not eligable for a discount and it would be handy to be able to add this to cart whilst online?
:)

maybe to avoid that you use the new clamps on another pole brand ;)
-
Just looked at Gardiners website, the base pole price is cheaper but things that were previously included are now extra such as pole hose etc.
Having said that you do get a brush and gooseneck included which makes it a better deal than previously.
Also the fitted flow valve, has gone up from £9 odd to £13 odd.
There's so many options now I'm finding it very confusing.

The SLX22 is a 5 section pole so you need the second option (4 clamps).

:)
The clamp upgrades are only available through the office as to begin with everyone who has bought a Gardiner pole since the 7th of May 2012 will get a 50% discount and anyone who has bought a Gardiner pole prior to this will get 25% off. So it is worth ringing up and getting your pole purchase linked to a previous order and getting the discount.
Currently these will not be available to anyone who has not previously bought a Gardiner pole from us - why anyone would want to I'm not quite sure unless they just wanted to check the clamps out. As far as I know these clamps will not fit on to any other pole.

As you have seen we have worked hard to bring the price of the base pole itself down to the best value possible - this is particularly noticeable on the larger sizes of the SLX poles.
There are many options now all of which are charged for as extras, this is so that clients only pay for what they want and will use. Previously all clients ended paying for hose and gooseneck even though they often already had these items.
There are a lot of options, but if you work your way through them in logical order they do allow for almost all permutations catering to the requirements of most of our clients. Basically choose a brush and gooseneck, then choose hose and connector and the job is done.

I've not been following the forum so much recently as I thought everything had been said that *could* be said. It looks like the smart clamps have proven me wrong :) . This could be the answer to my CLX27 issues as I find that I have to clamp it with each section extended a few inches. Presumably it's not such a hard surface as the SLX. It's a funny thing because I've had clamps on my mind recently. I was going to ask Alex if there was a way of including some type of better gripping material between clamp and pole. I was also going to suggest that the "tightener" could be made in a way that made it easier to tighten after a certain point e.g. made with something sticking out rather than totally round. The smart clamps seem to have superceded such things though.
Can the smart clamps be fitted to an Xtreme pole. i.e. is there enough play in them to overcome the fact that the ends of sections have a larger diameter? (I have an earlier 48 ft model without any half way points).
If this is done by spring, I imagine it must be a very strong spring, particularly on the end clamp that hold brushes and screw threads.
The Smart Clamp upgrade kit will fit the Xtreme 48 Poles - http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/Gardiner-Smart-Clamp-DIY-Upgrade-Kits-ClampII_SET.html
It will not allow it to clamp anywhere along its length though.

Hi Alex, I am going to order the smart clamps for my 2 year old slx, but I also have a slx35 which I bought from a forum member a couple of years ago, will I be able to order clamps for this?

IMAO when you buy a pole it will be easier and not so confused to choose only a brush and gooseneck, then choose hose and connector. Not have some many options. Just my opinion anyway ;D

The push-fit valves have risen from the stand-alone price of £9.50 to the fitted price of £13.12 this is because when fitting them to the pole hose other costs are incurred such as:
Slightly longer hose pack
2x Stem to Barb adapter (not always needed for push-fits with our pole hose, but we fit them to save any pull-out issues)
2x O clips
It is fractionally cheaper to buy the hose packs and the flow valves and make them yourself, it depends if convenience or cost is the priority.
We decided to let clients have the full range of options.

I think that you are probably right. I have removed the options to choose other types of goosenecks and brushes.
There are now just the following options:
Inclusive carbon gooseneck and free brush.
Quick-LoQ Gooseneck (optional)
Quick-LoQ Brush (optional)
Fanjet option
Hose option
Connector option
Flow Valve option

What if you just want a bare pole?
This is the basic option and is the starting point for all our new poles (apart from those with free carbon gooseneck and brush).
For instance if you go to the page for a CLX18 - http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/CL-X-Carbon-Composite-Pole-CLX_18.html
When these are available to buy (Tuesday 7th 8.00am) if you simply clicked the Add to Cart button you would buy a CLX18 bare pole with no hose, connector gooseneck or brush.
-
Alex would you recommend changing over to the new clamps for a good condition one year old pole, or waiting till the old clamps wear ?
-
Alex, Thank you so very much for your new lineup, this has removed any doubt whatsoever as to which pole I should buy as I start my business. You can certainly expect a sale from me when you release them.
-
Alex would you recommend changing over to the new clamps for a good condition one year old pole, or waiting till the old clamps wear ?
I am a great believer in 'if it 'aint broke don't fix it' so if the pole is working well and the sections are evenly worn then continue as you are is the easy cheap option.
As soon as the sections show signs of uneven wear then a clamp upgrade would be ideal. Of course if you look after the pole well with regular cleaning and maintenance the pole may not wear unevenly and you can continue using it with the original clamps fitted.

hi alex ,
If i buy a new slx 22 ami i right in thinking i will be able to add an extension to make it a 26?
Would go for a 25 but prefer the shorter closed length of the 22.
How far can it be extended with extensions?
-

The weights have not changed between the CLX your mate has just bought and the older one you have. However there will be a weight difference now as your one will have shed up to 1/6th of its weight through wear, which is why it also feels less rigid.
-

gary
These new clamps will be able to be fitted to the Xtreme poles (in fact the new Xtreme18 & 25 coming next week will have them fitted). However it will not change the way they work as the difference between clamping zones and the shaft on the Xtreme is too great for the clamp to adjust between.

If you buy an SLX22 you will be able to add to it first of all with the SLX extension section#6 this would give you about 26ft.
You can then carry on and add an extension section#7, #8, #9 and then even a modular #10 extension section giving you about 45/46ft

Are the extensions for the poles all protected like normal base sections.
-
Are the extensions for the poles all protected like normal base sections.
They are. All of the SLX extensions have a thin insulative outer layer on top of the carbon fibre so that they can safely be used as a handle section.
They do not come with and end cap fitted though (as they can be bought in multiples) so the correct sized end cap would need to be bought separately.
-
What if you just want a bare pole?
Plenty of them in a bar I used to frequent. £50 for half an hour.

Looks a bit confusing which pole and which brush, gooseneck, etc - never had one of these before so unsure which is which any recommendations?
Hi WWC
I thought about what you have posted and I agree that it can be confusing with all of the options. Therefore I have now included a short video guide to all of the pole options on every pole page to talk users through the multitude of choices available.
You can see an example of this video on this page - http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/SLX-II-Carbon-Pole--SLX_18.html
If ordering a pole with an included carbon gooseneck and brush then the 10" carbon with the Medium-Mixed DT brush is an excellent starting point. If ordering a pole with no included gooseneck and brush then a QuicK-LoQ Resi-Neck with a Medium-Mixed DT brush would be a good choice.
-
Alex, as you are here, Is your backpack suitable for use a a soap dispenser for gutters??
And is it ok to call in to collect it.

Hi LLAAWW
Yes this would be fine to use the backpack for spraying soap and other cleaning chemicals.
We have a good stock of them in hand - it's always a good idea to call ahead as the items can be ready and waiting for you for when you arrive - otherwise at busy times there may be a wait.
-
Ok thanks.
I need some other stuff as well, but nothing too complicated.
Will buzz during the week.

As has been said it is our current promotional give away item.
We have now moved on to the QuicK-LoQ carbon fibre goosenecks as our latest offering but still have a stock of carbon goosenecks. We are using these to add even more value to some of our pole range.
