Seems a lot of liquid microsplitters around now - any one tried a few from different places? are they all pretty much on par?
-
I think HD from solutions is the bees knees! Smells lovely too
-
yea thats my main weapon of choice, just wondered how the others faired
-
Pure Clean - no diluents. Powder, but mixes OK.
-
Pure Clean is the bees knees

-
All pretty much on par my main MS one is amtech which I believe was the first followed by pure clean
-
I find pure clean ok but dosen't touch HD plus HD has a nice floral smell, If you boost pure clean with an oxidiser it becomes SPM or almost ! cos basically thats all SPM is

Hi folks can anyone tell me where i can get chemicals like these in northern ireland?
-
Solutions has a distributor in Ireland, from memory I think it's Cleaning Warehoue.

Has to a prochem or chemspec supplier in Belfast somewhere ? or Hitec cleaning in enniskillen would have Alltec ' detergent free prespray '
I have yet to read a convincing argument for using ' microsplitter 'on its own insted of more complex formulations that also contain phosphates though.
-
You obviously have not used them. They work. Big time.

yes i have :)
Im not say it doesn't work , im saying I'd need a convincing argument why i should use it in preference to a more complex product .
'Microsplitter' is a marketing term for phosphate on its own ... a more complex product might have phosphate + surfactant + solvent + builder+ inhibitor +perfume etc .

Efficiency,economy,"Eco friendly" god results.

Efficiency,economy,"Eco friendly" god results.
Efficiency - a more complex product containing the same ingredient is if anything as or more efficient .
Economy - Liquid microsplitter -( a big can of water with a scoop of phosphate ) poor value . Powder microsplitter - hardly more economical than a more complex powder formula that contains phosphate and other ingredients .
Eco friendly - 'Microsplitter' causes eutrophication ... when u pour the dirty water down the drain hole your killing the fishys . :'(
;D

Ive moved to SPM in the last few months.
Nearly finished a £55-00 tub, and it will probably have taken about £8,000-00 worth of work from it.
All customers, and me delighted with the amount of dirt it brings out, so what does it matter what its made of?
It does the job big time.
-
Understand that microsplitters aren't eco friendly. They are detergent free.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trisodium_phosphate
If you want eco friendly then you should be using products like Mpower, Nemesis, DFC105 etc.
-
what would you recommend in preference to a standard microsplitter thats more complex
-
a microsplitter with neurosis... ;D ;D

Iv'e read that link john, but it dosent say anywhere that i can see {Micro splitters} ? I have heard that the name was just made up! dont know if that is true or not ?

Formula90 , ultimatemaster .. whichever , im not too hung up on chemical brands .
most of the time it makes little difference what you use .
'Microsplitter ' is probably all you need most of the time also . Fine as long as you realize what your paying for .
It seems made up pseudo scientific waffle ... designed to sell a 'new cleaning concept ' in its day , which is really selling a cheap to manufacture consumable and create a niche .
So 'microsplitter' is just sodium tripolyphosphate(STP) in its original definition , probably started by these guys ..
http://onestep-europe.de/english/index.htm
SPM is washing soda (sodium carbonate ) and oxidizer .... that would seem to me to be reinventing the definition of microsplitter as it shares nothing in common with the original .
Most carpet powders out there contain either STP or washing soda or both .
Cost wise something like Ashbys Supreme looks like good value ... £ 33 for
10kg of 65% washing soda - 25% STP - and the rest surfactant / perfume etc
add some oxidizer when needed .

When you are using this type of chemical do you pre-spray and agitate or just add to the tank I have not tried
this type of chemical in powdered form but use liquid formula 90 from time to time as a rinse booster for mingers when using HD micro splitter but when used LF 90 on its own I find I need to do a lot of spotting

Formula 90 liquid is a blend of surfactants , so when prespray with your phosphate' microsplitter'
you add surfactant to from the tank (f90)
Im just saying that most regular cc powders would already have that mix in the ingredients ...
ie . phosphate and surfactant .
Nothing wrong with having them separate ... whatever works , but you could probably get away with using one product like Ultimate master instead of two for most jobs and have the same result .
Still use them the same way , spray agitate , some in the tank if you like .

I have been using SPM for about 2 years now and i love it... works just fine for HWE and also for low moisture, never had to worry about sticking anything other than fresh water in my tank.
The added benefit of using detergent free is little to no foam...
-
But aren't some brands better than others? KFC and Southern Fried chicken are simular or is it just preference?
Shaun
-
Well... i don't know of anyone doing a comparison between brands.. would be interesting to see though
-
No, ive tried southern fried chicken on the carpets and its cluckin rubbish

KFC is good for spotting on carpets though, just put it down and it pecks it right out of there!

Russ
I find SPM quite foamy at times especially after a DIY effort
John
Thanks for the info will give one a try
-
I think you will find it is the previous attempts to clean that gives the foam.
-
Yep... who knows what's lurking in that carpet before we arrive? always a good idea to use a little de foamer regardless of what pre spray is being used.
If i am using a micro splitter it never causes foaming... Prochem products such as multi pro have caused me a few problems in the past... but thats why you end up buying de foamer and fibre fabric rinse as well... end up using 3 products to get the same results from one!
