im pretty sure i have rac cover with my insurance policy after speaking to gav lamm this morning hes certain they will shell out for repairs to my vehicle any one in the know on this
just waiting for the insurance company to open to call them
-
Depends what policy you have (roadside assist isnt going to do it) and how strict you've abided by their conditions if the policy is applicable; servicing frequency etc.
-
im not getting my hopes up i think it will prob be rac roadside assistance ive got
-
Only smarties has the answer :P
-
I very much doubt it, its a wole different policy to get general repairs covered and exspensive.
A normal RAC policy even with the top level of cover, they will only do minor roadside repairs to get you going again and charge you for any parts used.
If they cannot get you going or its a big job (like yours) they will tow you home or to a garage then its your problem.
I hope you get your van sorted mate.
-
Rac would have towed you to a garage a exspensive garage where you will pay excessive charges.

If you have top level of cover they will tow you anywhere you tell them.

Richy have your workers been thrashing and abusing your van?i would make they drive sensible,i wouldn't be happy if one of my workers damage my van.
-
your are joking right richy?
not a chance mate.how old is the van?and did you change the cambelt when you bought it?i always change mine on any second hand van/car i buy straight away as soon as i buy it.
-
sorry richy just realised it was your engine mounting that snapped knackering your cambelt. :( :(
-
the only reason ive posted is spoke with gav lamm today he said aa paid for all his twice once when his master cylinder went and also when he replace engine i think when he had issues with his vivaro apparently they were meant to pay up to first 500 but paid the lot
-
That sounds like a warrantee policy not a recovery policy
-
Is this on your vivaro?
-
Is this on your vivaro?

-

I have cover with the AA, plus additional repair cover. For the repair cover to kick in you have to call the AA first plus it's advisable to report the repair cover to the driver. You then need to be assessed by the AA and dropped off at a garage that will deal with the AA.
My local garage did this for me when we had a breakdown.
You do specifically have to have repair cover though.
-
don't go down the route of getting a secondhand engine. I used to be a spannerman and I can tell you an untouched engine for Vivaro are hard to find and likely you will buy a half baked wreck engine for top dollar. the injection pump and possibly even the injectors are computer matched to the brain of the van to further complicate matters
back in the day I heard of a fellah who fitted a secondhand engine to a Renault ,he failed to get the brain on the van to match up with the new engine-on startup it revved its nuts off to the max and couldn't be switched off neither !!
-
Richy I hav AA breakdown cover
They paid for the complete repair
I had a engine mount snap £247
Also clutch slave cylinder went on the M60
Recovered me to Wrexham had clutch slave
Done and AA paid for a new clutch also
On that breakdown bill was £490
As all the work was being done to do the slave
Where does Lamm come into it

dean ive had mine since 2008 and to be honest it been pretty damn good to be fair its taken a lot of abuse and been neglected service wise etc, i got it with 32,000 on clock think it approx 75,000 now and not had any huge outlay for it till now
-
People, in general, are quick to moan when something's wrong.
It's not negative it's just that when something does what it should we don't shout about it.
My toaster-cracking, 4 years of perfect toast, kettle, perfect hot water for 3 years etc.
Think of all the things we use each day that could break. When they don't we don't say anything about them cause there's nothing to report.
When they do we talk about it.
Vivaro/Trafic/Primastar have had some issues to be fair but (from my limited experience) after 2008 the problems seem fewer.
Even the legendary VW's-someone on here had one that was a pup.
Of it isn't brand new (or within the 3 year manufacturers warranty) you take a punt on all vans

mine was a 57 plate with 75000 on the clock and that started playing up i had it looked at and the total bill was going to cost 2200 to put right so it went down the road with a nice little wave from me
