I read on this forum: Its not advisable to lacquer a carbon pole.Could you please elaborate as I have just done this and find it has improved my SLX30.I will still have to see the longer term results, but so far I am happy with the finish and how much easer the clamps work, and no more black hands.

What lacquer did you use and where did you get it from?

This would depend on what lacquer you have used and how well it has been applied - what is it that you have used?
Lacquer that is too soft will simply wear off very quickly and contribute to extra dust.

I used a heavy duty Poli Urethane I got from Halfords. I must say its very hard as I only did one coat and its does not scratch easy. Did let it harden in a heated airing cupboard. Then left it cure for 4 days. No runs and or bumps only smooth.

Du Pont used to do bowling alley surfaces. and years ago I had a shotgun stock that had a Du Pont finish and it was almost indestructible. I don't know if they do anything for the DIY market but if I were to use anything then that would be the first to try.

The thing to bare in mind is the coating must not add to much to the pole circumference,as this might make the clamps to tight and difficult to open the pole. What I plan to do is spray them every 5/6 months and do a light sanding before the next new coat.
