is anyone on here using either of these vehicles for waterfed pole and if so how big a tank you using. also where did you get tank from
-
we had a navara and fitted a 350ltr tank in the back, the turning circle is not that great on them tho. you can get some wicked custom tanks done to ft them at a cost of around £500 that is for the tank only, kitted out two for customers, certainly look impressive. the downsides are you are ltd to what poles fit in the back
-
I have a navara 2. Love it. Works great for me. Have a 350l tank. Plenty for me. Made a wooden base for my hose reel that slots the reel onto the tailgate. So I can work at many different angles without lifting a hose reel about.
Fit an slx30 in the back. Wouldn't get anything longer.
Don't feel the tank on driving along unlike my old van.
-
be careful of early navaras as have tendency to put con rods thru the blocks seen loads of em in my former job
-
02-05 navaras suffer from this. Bought mine from a navara specialist. They up rate the con rod bolts among other things. Every car or van can have its faults.

L200 Trojan i have a 60 plate really well built payload approx 1200 kg and pretty good on mpg considering i carry over 500 kg .
Would not ever consider getting a van over truck i have mine has the smallest load area of of the L200 models i have a 400 ltr tank in the back of mine with pump box down one side of tank .
But hose reel goes on back seat and pole is also placed in the cab between the 2 front seats . But i have a full box tonneau sports cover fitted to the back of mine and not a full hardtop with windows like most .
Mine is fully secure and alarmed so no risk of someone putting in back windows unless you get one with blank sides . Mike

Depends on your budget they are quite pricey if I remember a previous post and if they are not crash tested why pay over the odds .
No point having a custom tank if you hapoen to be buying an older vehicle lot of things to consider my tank is strapped in which means if I change vehicle I can put it in another truck . Mike

I managed to get A standard lay flat 500 litre tank in my l200.
I have two reels bolted down near the tailgate. pump and battery go down the side of the tank.
Two poles on the top of tank, an 18 and 22 foot gardners go,s in
I never need to carry anything in the cab.
500 litre tank does me and my partner for 4 hours.
Im not rearly happy with the straps that secure the tank will have to come back to that job.
-
mark could you maybe send me a pic my emails on my profile cheers ricky

Hi mark
Is it just a standard 500l lay flat tank 920mm wide 1000mm long 620mm high ?
If I can get away with this Il go for it but if not a custom tank it is. Need at least 500l
Cheers

Ranger.much better than both of them.

Ranger.much better than both of them.
A Ford Ranger is in no way better than either of those.
Not even a bit.
Not in any way, shape or form.

Visiting my tame mechanic yesterday and we were discussing the Navara or to be more specific I was listening to his rant. He has a couple of D22 versions that are driving him nuts. One has just put number three conrod through the side of the block and the other popped a drive shaft. His biggest complaint is that many single components don't seem to be available 2nd hand or indeed at all. Nissan couldn't / wouldn't sell him a drive shaft but were quite happy to suggest he pay £2,000 for a replacement front axle ! He managed to track down a rebuilt item for £500 but was unimpressed. They are a nice truck, conrod issue and indifferent attitude from Nissan regarding warranty claims notwithstanding, have more power than the equivalent Ranger and should have better mpg - I looked at a few, then bought a Ranger.
-
Older Navara are pretty decent but new models are just tonka trucks and only good as a Chelsea tractor ;D ;D . Mike
-
Why consider either of them when while Toyota still build a HiLux, it wipes the floor with all the imitations.

Drives like a tank and mpg is shocking ;D ;D ;D . Mike

Couldn't find a good Hilux for sensible money or a super cab with suicide doors
Don't quite see how the Ranger / Mazda B is an imitation as it pre-dates the Hilux by 7 years being first built in 1961.

It's not so much the fault that's the worry. You have to buy from a specialist who, through using some good engineering intelligence, corrects an engineering fault that the manufacturers can't be bothered to address or correct themselves - effectively making the engine not fit for purpose - and then dismiss warranty claims for £3-5,000 for the replacement of wrecked engines at 40,000 miles on the flimsiest of excuses. Doesn't inspire faith or confidence I'm afraid.

Ahh but the Hilux is itself just a wannabe!

It definately is l200 and navaras have so many faults.

As do all vehicles.
Google any vehicle and you will find something.

I find the Ranger absolutely excellent for normal use and brilliant this week when I drove across a very boggy field in 4wd to clean a large number of solar panels. Don't think my old van would have managed that somehow !

I went to a solar site a week before the snow came. I had to be driven around on a manitou with tracks, not wheels and we still got stuck!!! They are now spending £185,000 on drainage! Ouch! Would the ranger have got me he job done? ;)

I spend considerable time off road, mostly in a fairly steep field. Very little has so far defeated it but I am limited by the tyres and thick mud does cause some issues. With some proper all terrain or mud tyres, coupled with 500 kg over the rear wheels, a rear limited slip diff and a very good low range 'box it would probably get you to most places without trouble. My old 2wd P100 just used to spin one rear wheel and dig itself in but the Ranger does rather better.
