Title: TDS READING (POLL)
Post by: geefree on March 19, 2013, 07:03:34 pm
Hi,

I used to always run at 0.00 without resin from a 300 gpd ro-man

with new filters and new membranes ... i now run at 0.05 ....not happy. old ones had the water creeping up so i replaced.... need not  have bothered.

Anything below 40 is ok with a good rinse.

I have put 0.05 - 0.10 but meaning that I work up to 0.10 before changing the resin, therefore most the time I work with a tds of 0 or closer to 0, that way a bag of resin lasts me a year.
I've worked with higher but only without realising.
I do think though Stevie g that up to 40 may be pushing it.

My TDS from tap is 33. Was cleaning up to 10 and always changed.
Last week cleaned up to 30 by mistake and forgetting to order resin .
The two jobs done were a shambles(covered in white water spots),no this as do insides of 1 job. Been cleaning for over a year and never had a problem before till i let resin run to 30
Had to redo jobs next day when resin came. :-[
Lesson learned for me.

It has to be 0. Anything above 0 is a risk.

As I've said plenty of times before, if you're using two DI vessels (which you should be to save money) then you don't save a single penny by letting TDS get above zero.

how do you use two vessels in the way you're talking about?

You connect one after the other. When you get anything higher than 0, move the second one back so the water goes through it first and replace the resin in the other one putting it so the water goes through it last.

It will probably take around 200 hours use for the membranes to work at their optimum. Not sure on the technical explanation but the tds should slowly come down over time.

I have a 300gpd unit and get 004 from tap water of 200tds.

As long as it is under 010 I do not worry.

It saves resin and it means that you never run the risk of using anything other than perfectly pure water.
