Title: New van recommendation
Post by: mick hay on March 17, 2013, 11:33:30 am
Im looking at getting a new van this year.

Would love a transporter T30, but theyre pretty expensive. So dont know whether to pay the extra for peace of mind, cos as far as i can see they are one of the best about.

OR.....have the vivaro's...trafics......primastars, sorted out their gearbox and other problems yet?

I know you get the warranty with a new van, but its still time off the road if something goes wrong.

OR..any other vans i should look at??

The vito is another option too i spose.

Im looking at the larger sized vans, love the caddy, but i use it as pleasure vehicle to, need to fit fishing gear, snowboards bikes etc in, not all at once tho..lol

@slash, what year is your Vivaro?...any problems at all with it? I like the sportives, decent prices about too at the moment  :)

I bought my van about 16 months ago brand new, brilliant van and drives superb,I have a 650 litre tank and when full don't notice it's there,I have the SWB model and like I say drives far more superior to other vans I test drived therfore went with the flow,no regrets yet as like I say is only over a year old but I must admit they are quite classy looking too so I get the best of both! ;D

I bought my Hyundai iload one year ago brand new.

Plusses:-

1060kg payload so takes a 650L two man set up. (plus a couple of barrels when needed so 700L)

2.5L diesel with loadsa torque.

Rear Wheel Drive

5 year warranty

Can be used as a 2 or 3 seater (middle folds to give a paperwork and drinks tray when 2 - up.)

Air Con/Leccy mirrors

Less than £16K

Minusses

Only one payload/engine offering. But fine for me.

i like the look of the new transit

No Im not thinking of the Transits.

Mercedes did have a reputation for rust. Thats a fact.

I am asking if that is now solved and no longer an issue so long as you dont buy an old mercedes.?

Transits and Merc's are both prone to rust, just look around.

I believe rust is relative.

If you clean and maintain your van, it wont rust as fast.

I looked after my transit, it got to 10 years old without alot of rust, I then neglected it, and in a year it really went down hill.

With the new sprinter, ill be looking after it again and hopefully will get 10 years out of it,

Alex

Wether its galvanized or not is a much bigger factor when it comes to rust .

Me I'd go for transit , but to be fair if its new and your gonna
Change it every 5 years it won't matter which you choose.
Chose the one that you like.
If you're gonna keep it long term buy the transit.
