really need to look at some alternatives to my van set up.
i am thinking of defender and a 1000ltr fast tow trailer. i have a secure garage that it could go into , whilst not in use.
pliable idea or not?
i thought of a trailer as i can use defender then for short term private use.
only looking as divorce settlement means things are gonna be tight my side for a short while.

Friend has been using a trailer for several years with no problems, he has just up graded the size of it now!

HAS HE GOT A FAST TOW TYPE., JUST LOOKING HOW I COULD ADD ALL THE BITS ONTO IT.
2 batteries, 2 pumps, 2 controllers, and a fogwash

Not sure, I just know it's a large box trailer with a large tank, 2 reels, backpack, several poles batteries and works fine.

If you have a van set up already I would avoid changing to a trailer at all costs. Parking will be a major issue. You will slow down and there will be an initial cost too. If you unavoidably - as in cannot beg steal or borrow enough to keep your van - and have to sell it to get the cash then buy another older van with the money you would spend on a defender and trailer...
To get rid of a van as a wfp windie is like a tree surgeon selling his Stihl chain saw and going back to an electric black and decker!
I used a 400kg trailer with a 200L tank as an add on to my van when I went two man. I have used an estate car and I have used a trolley. Now I use a three seat van plus the wife has a small Suzuki runabout car.
In general terms I would get a van every time. If I needed seats for children etc. I would go for a three seater/crew cab (tho' the latter would be difficult if you want to carry above 650L) If you are looking to carry anything more than about 250/400L then I would say a van is even more indicated as a large vehicle/trailer combo will give parking issues. (With my small trailer it could be manhandled whereas a 500 litre plus one won't.)
Hope that helps.
