Title: tm mods
Post by: Luc on March 13, 2013, 06:39:55 pm
What are some of the best mods you have done to a tm? Mine is prob wrapping the heat exchanger up in a heat shield tape. I get so much more heat on my boxer 318. I read about loads of mods on the usa forums like 4 to the door and stuff.

A note of caution here, chaps. Wrapping your exhaust up in heat resistant tape may cause the engine to overheat. If it were meant to be insulated like that I'm sure the manufacturers would have done it as they, just like you they want every ounce of performance from their machines, the fact that they haven't may not be an oversight. :'(

I got the heat tape from a classic car shop in essex but you can get it on ebay. I wrapped it around only once tho and made sure it slightly overlapped slightly.  I held in in place with jubilee clips. I have to say that my engine feels fine and actually seems cooler as there is not as much heat coming from the bare metal exhaust pipes now. My tm gets up to heat much quicker and is so much hotter now.

doesn't that just make it dump more often and therefore use up far more water? just asking, i'm no expert.

I dont think the Blazer produces huge amounts of heat comparatively. All this will do is give you hotter water quicker which I think is a good thing. As Simon has said though, like cars when you mod them they just aint going to last as long as a 'stock' item. You pays your money...

My engine has done over  3000 hours now, and apart from a slight  oil leak is still running well. I wrapped the heat exchanger when the engine was installed.  The boxer does not produce nowhere like the  heat im guessing simons titan machine produces but I defo gained more heat when cleaning. My machine does not dump a lot of water and tends to only dump when its been running for 15 - 20 mins with no cleaning. I was always shocked at how much heat was coming off the exhaust pipes and was circulating around the engine. Since the heat wrap its been so much cooler in the engine area. I want to put a new engine in soon but only because I want to run lpg and have been told that b and s engines dont take well to running lpg.

The best conversion Ive done is conversion to gas, it saves a fortune on fuel. 2 1/2 hose was pretty good too.
