Title: kohler engines
Post by: Luc on March 09, 2013, 07:22:02 pm
I posted on here a few months ago about transplanting a new engine in my boxer 318. The briggs and Stratton engine is about to give up. I dont really want to buy a whole new tm yet as it it is running well and i have practically replaced almost everything on it with new parts. I would liketo replace with a kohler engine as i feel these run better. Is there anywhere/anyone/company who may be able to do this?
I understand it nots gonna be a straightforward fit but it must be possible right?

A Reg mechanic should be able to do for you.

I'm sure my mechanic could as he not only works on cars and vans, but is a bike enthusiast and rebuilds classic bikes, and worked on boats ect. there are lots of mechanics like this who could look over the engine side of things and soon work it out.

The crank it's self only drives the pump and blower via belts.

What I would do is book him for the day, and spend the day with him myself to help out, done this quite a few times, together we always work it out. He always seems to have everything we could possibly need for the job too.  :D

T/M are not much different to ride on lawnmowers, woodchippers, cherrypickers, compressors etc..etc

companies who have the skill to change a T/M engine include plant hire  engineering services, agricultural engineers, pressure washing companies that deal with trailer mounted units etc..etc.

my first call would be to farm services engineering companies, if the can fix  engine driven farm equipment they can transplant  a truckmount engine.

find small owner operated companies that you can walk into the workshop and talk to the owner who also does the work, if you have to stand at the service desk and talk to a glorified shop assistant then walk out, they will just have the stock answer ... "a truckmount, whats that? we don't do that sort of thing"
