Title: Scam
Post by: Ben Lugg on March 08, 2013, 11:23:35 pm
Hi,
Been sent an invoice for £195 for advertising in a police community
Magazine. Never arranged any kind of ad with them
and believe it is nationwide scam at the moment.
Anybody had similar.?
 I've heard of small businesses
Being harassed over the phone to sign up for
Advertising which never materialises .
I'm just going to ignore the invoice or maybe get trading
Standards involved.

Ben.

I had something similar a few years ago. If you get any hassle just ask to see the contract and artwork you signed off and then for a copy of any supposed telephone conversation, and yes report to trading standards there will likely be other locally who have recieved similar.

Happened to me when I lived in London, simply told them all my contracts such as that, would be done by E- signature on email ......... my folder does not contain my copy so could you send me your own copy for my records .......... it was a one off conversation  ::)roll

Ah trading standards, biggest bunch of ineffective arsholes going. These scam have been on the go for 20 years plus and are the same people in the Manchester/Merseyside area who are doing them.

Have to disagree with you there John.
I live in W.Yorks but have been dealing with
N.Yorks Trading Standards over a monetary
problem with a firm over there.
They have been nothing but brilliant and have
just got me £1400 plus expenses back.
They filed with the court and footed all the expenses.
Cost me not a penny.... ;D

You get them all - police diaries, something for the poor children in your area suffering from cancer, put on local authorities tradesman lists etc etc all complete low lifes even worse than mobile phone agents.

Yes - I've already been stung by that police mag thing.
There's more than one about.

I've just been invoiced for the 'community care guide'. I believe this to be a scam.  I'll be asking them to send me copies of their magazine, and a list of locations they deliver to...

Best thing is to completely ignore them- once you reply they know they have a company/trader for real.
If you have not ordered anything or not spoken to them they have absolutely no legal hold over you.
Do not even tell them not to contact you.

Yes a very old scam been going on for years, can they not think up a new idea ?

Sorry cannot stop someone from a bank wants to put $5,000,000 into my bank account because  all the family got killed in a 8-9 magnitude earthquake.
Cheers Hotsteam  ::)roll

Also a similar scam saying they are offering discounts to NHS staff.
