Title: Employers Liability insurance
Post by: terry barnes on March 08, 2013, 07:04:03 pm
Did you know that if you employ family members in a family business [not a limited company] that you are exempt from this insurance. Just saved myself
£150. [Thanks to Mark at Gleaming Insurance] My previouse insurance co AXA didnt know of this exemption. Feel cheated.

You are correct however there are risks involved by not taking it out. It is not that rare for family members to sue other members of the family when an accident has occured. Not having insurance in place could land you with large legal fees and damages. Also think if say your son or daughter was injured and maybe not able to work again or requiring long term care and it was a negligent cause. There would be no redress. Do think the risk is worth it for £3 a week?

It may well be a loophole to avoid insurance costs but I'm with JK on this, would rather have it in place and sleep easy

Ours costs £1100 for EL, PL, Treatment Risk, Key Loss and Tools Cover

I was unaware of this and have been employing my brother for 2 years now! Think I'll keep it running all the same tho.

Ours was only £791 in April. All as above apart from Key Loss. Tools to £20000. Will check who it's with when I get chance.

Isn’t this type of insurance (EL) based on turn over regardless of how many you employ

I wish, I am just a poor northerner like yourself.  ;)
I have always bought insurance locally, maybe time to shop around.

All very well being cheap but how does one stand if a carpet is damaged whilst trying to remove stains from it?
ie the carpet is bleached from a product which is being used to try and remove stains.
