you carry on working all bank holidays fella, dont have holidays full stop, dont listen to anyone........what flowers do you want sending to your early grave and when your children grow up and start talking about the great days they had and you say something like"i dont remember that" you will no why....oh and the guilt never goes away

WORK TO LIVE?.OR LIVE TO WORK?

this may sound strange but i dont count them(WORKED DAYS),i take the week ends off, unless it had rained for a few days in the week then may work Saturday,i tend to use George to tell me how many jobs i have done for the year
i never work bank holidays
i do tend to work in rain,up to a point
one thing i have done is go from 4 weekly to monthly and i feel its more balanced out
i dont normally canvass as i have 350ish customers,so the turn over is fine for me......but i would canvass on Saturdays

to sum up i personally dont have a problem with working across the six days,if its needed but wont if i dont have too
and i never work the bank holidays
over the years i have like a lot people have worked all the hours under the sun, even xmas day as an emergency plumber for a company called Homeserve, i think i did 14 jobs that day.....its ok chasing the money,we all do but its a greater and more rewarding result to get the work life balance right because wont get the time back

sermon over ;D ;D

work bank holiday if you want to mate, its up to you and if you think youre customers will accept it and you want to or need to then go for it, unfortunatly for us we may even be working the saturday and sunday over easter (hoping not too, but if client wants it, then we go)

good points if you can afford to take time then great, but if you need the dosh and want to work then go, or if clients request a visit that day or weekend then go,

that may be true, but we live in a 24/7 world, the shops/petrol stations/ amusement parks / pubs / restaurants are still open, buses and taxis will run, i think no one should work these days if they dont want to, but i bet most if not all of us on here will at some point over the bank holiday will use one of these services,

added  - and window cleaners will clean :D

ITS BANK HOLIDAY MATE.....

Yes, but more importantly Good Friday is the day on which our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified.

So we'll take the day off and go for some food and then the pictures.

Before i was a window cleaner i was a fabricator welder i was working 12 hr nights and
Also had a small fabrication business that i was building up i used to have about 4 hrs sleep each day i done this for a year until my body finally gave up and i suffered a cardiac arrest .

I was pronounced dead twice in 2 hrs the first time i was gone for 45 mins !
Since starting up window cleaning i love the ability to do what i want and when. Want
And if i want to work bank holidays i will .
my wife works 12 hrs on a saturday and sunday so we have our weekend in the week .
So i will be working monday no doubt about it .

I was pronounced dead twice in 2 hrs the first time i was gone for 45 mins !

Did it give you a new outlook on life?  Has it worn off?  Did it teach you anything?  I'm not being flippant here; I'm genuinely interested.

Yes tosh it taught me a few things
work to live not live to work !

It taught me that you are only here for a holiday as you are a looooooong time dead

Family is the key !!

Do not take anything for granted

Always tell your wife & children that you love them as one day you may not be able to

You are only a number in everyone elses eyes as soon as you are gone you are replaced .

The list is endless .

something I learned ages ago was not to ask on here if you should work or not on certain days, just go work it if you want, I will, I don't work in a bank so bank holidays don't effect me/ór is that affect? :-\

I am not employed, I can work when I want and if I get back bad feedback I will not do it again, but I have never had bad feedback at working a bank holiday, and asking on here is pointless, just do it if you want to work, pretty simple really

Since I optimized my business I have no need to work BH's and even before I would only work them if I was desperate.

Good Friday seems an odd BH to me. I have a good customer who is cleaned 3 weekly on a Friday. Very involved in the local Catholic Church but is happy for me to clean in the regular morning slot.

The other BH's I wouldn't even consider working.

I suppose it depends if it bothers you or you think it may bother your customers.

The Jewish Passover starts Monday 25th in the evening and ends the evening of Tues 2nd April. How do they feel about work being done during their Passover?
Good Friday is 29th March How do customers feel about work being done then?
Dec 25th is Xmas how would you feel about work being done on your home then?

For many Jews/Christians Passover/Holy week is the most important holiday of them all.

well good for you, I wasnt suggesting they would.
I was giving advice to the original poster who was concerned whether to work good friday or not.
I have early morning shop work on fridays so thats all I'll be doing and then going home.

Is that because you feel like your missing out on a days wage or do you feel a bit guilty for sitting at home?

I'm only over the hill from you if you need any help optimizing your system and round let me know, I'll show you how we don't have to work Bank Holidays.

BTW there is a City & Guilds in Sheffield, space available for 1 or 2. Are you interested?
