We are planning a Monthly CIU Quiz which is intended not to be easy! The quiz will cover questions on Hard Floor Cleaning, Carpet Cleaning, Window Cleaning and Pressure Washing amongst other things. Rather than me set all the questions I am asking for Professionals in their field to set a few questions on their specific field of Expertise! Simples!
So which one of you specialists is going to send me 4 or 5 questions? to:
tilinglogistics@hotmail.com
You get credited with the questions (Free Advertising) and I guarantee the prize will be worth winning! You are also welcome to sponsor a prize if you want!

Kevin. Apparently i'm an annoying tit who disagrees with the majority of people on here. I consider my replys to posts to be correct and based on fact. My question is this ...given my answer is always correct but the majority on here disagree with me how will you mark the quiz? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Chris you won't win the quiz if my question is included.
Q. Is it ok to use a turbo nozzle on block paving?
;D ;D ;D
-
Or "Is it okay to re-join hoses?"
-
Or " find 5 deliberate mistakes in this picture ".
-
Or "You have a supply providing 15lpm .The machine you are using requires 30lpm...how much block paving can you clean with your 0.75 turbo nozzle at 3150psi?
Answers on a post code please or phone 09071234567 all callls will be charged a t 3 grand per minute and mobiles might me significantly higher.

I don't care whether people join in the quiz or not! I don't care if people don't send me questions and I don't care who joins in the quiz. I am not doing this for me I am doing it to help others gain some knowledge.
So you may be an annoying tit who thinks he is always right but regarding the quiz answers, the answers I have will be final ;D

Teflon,
Invisible, breathable (imperative for sandstone as it percolates moisture from the substrate) , adheres by impregnation so no delamination ,No more fading or peeling as the coating becomes aged. ,
Water based because sand stone does not dry out enough to apply solvents ( outside), hydrophobic, oleophobic, Tested for 5 year wear life on horizontal surfaces (10 years on vertical), high spread ratio's, Areas can be used straight away (although it takes 24hours to cure) Paint ,felt Tip ,chewing gum etc, is easily cleaned from the surface.(look how easy your Teflon frying pan cleans up!......i could go on.
My mate makes it in the shed at the back of his house with products from some Italian outfit.
It's cheap as well!!!

Lithofin Stain Stop, or Stain Stop Plus both impregnators excellent on Sandstone.

Rob i applogise for my "waffling". Like you keep telling me i should shut up listen and learn from the pro's on here. Up to now Roger would never "share" his secrets with me which is fair enough. As for me i like to share things,my chocolate ,my advice,my girlfriend.... ;D ;D ;D
Heavly used surfaces coated with alkoxysilanes (Lithofin Stain Stop "type" products) are recomend/ need to be recoated every 12 months....half the reason most of use shy away from using acrylics (in general not on sandstone).

Don't apologise for waffling. Don't take everything personally!

Sometime i wonder if people really understand what i am going on about for instance the above post regarding sandstone sealers.... Maybe i need to explain my self better so it's not interpreted as waffle. Rob do you understand my reasoning regarding the sandstone?

As you are moving into the domestic market you really need to be familiar with the products you will be pouring over grannies patio .
I merely provide you will all the information to make an informed choice. Sometimes it can take a paragraph or two of "waffle" ;D
Did you comprehend what i was explaining...sometimes i confuse myself although this is easily done now i am retired !!
-
Rogers was clearer.
Good luck in retirement - what will you do with yourself?
Rob ;D
-
I retired when i was 37 . I thought i would do it while i was old enough enjoy it.
-
Is your retirement working out because you keep saying you have no work - Isn't the right way to have enough put aside for retirement and anything you make on top of that is a bonus.
When I retire I wont be coming on here!

Got to keep my self in hookers and crack cocaine somehow . I come on here for an interesting debate with like minded people .Maybe to impart a little knowledge aand also to learn off the professionals.
You are entering into my domain now .You are "travelling" the country looking for work in afflent areas and moving into cleaning grannies patio's.
I can advise you on the type of caravan to buy .You will also need black and white gypsy cobs to go with your pick up and horse box. ;D ;D

If I was to tow a caravan it would be something that did not look like a charabang.
My new towing vehicle, bought last week - more for personal use needs a top of the range caravan.

Did you view the correct website?
-
Looking at your website - on the garage floor sealing page - is that you in the wide jeans???
Rob ;D
-
Don't know him ...Smartseal provided all the pics and text.
-
I wont be wanting a Smartseal website.
How old are you Chris?
Rob ;D
-
45
-
We could be twins Chris. Same attitude, working principles, go getters - I just need to work out what I have done wrong that I am not already retired!
Rob ;D
-
Why have you done anything wrong?
You are fit ,healthy ,
Possibily a beautiful wife/kids/boyfriend ?
You seem to have a sense of humor,
A new pick up,
You have the machineary to knock a couple of doors tommorrow and get enough money to feed the family.
Whats wrong with that ...what more do you really need?
-
Boyfriend, boyfriend - I don't mind what anyone gets up to but that isn't for me Chris!!!
Retirement! ;D
Rob ;D
-
Sorry you just have to be open minded sometimes. I have two gay couples that i clean for money is no object ,never try to chip on on price ..don't knock the pink pound thats what i say.
Maybe there is a site to advertise www.Get-a gay.com Vetted contractors for the gay community.
Lancashire council do a site called safetrader (i think it's called that) a lot of older people use it as it is run by the trading standards from what i recall.
It MIGHT be a better investment for your advertising budjet if there is a similar scheme near to you.
I think it was relatively cheap/free to join .
-
I cleaned the Sainsbury's at Southport and I believe there is a bit of money up your way. I may well do a leaflet campaign around your town!
Rob ;D
-
I can put you in touch with my "leaflet lady" £30 per thousand , local printer will do 40,000 leaflet for £410 single side full colour.
Plenty of big houses and gays in Southport.
-
How many are you putting out, what return are you getting?
Rob ;D
-
10,000 a month , get about 3 jobs per thousand spring ,2 per thou summer (rough guide) You will then get one job "in the street" from word of mouth/family/passing trade/neighbour.
Please bear in mind there is no science to this...these are very rough averages.
-
Are they all Smartseal leaflets as well?
Rob ;D
-
No smartseal on the leaflets. I dont promote the use of acrylic sealers . If smartseal send me a lead and the customer requests it i will use it.
Same applies to Pics, Resiblock, Advanced sealing solutions. I am also an "approved contractor" for all of these companies as well.
-
Why did you go with that route - I am interested because (and I am not trying to fall out) the website is not brilliant and you are restricted to their products.
My website was possibly the same price and I can change it when I want, use whatever equipment and or products I want.
Do you have google analytics set up on it - do you know how it is working for you, what searches people are putting in when on the site, where they are going, how long they are on there, page views etc.
Rob ;D

The website is not "technically " brilliant but smart seal do a very good job on the SEO etc and its'ok for granny who needs her patio cleaning. It has pretty pics something to read and contact details.....i'm not trying to sell rolls royces!!!
I like you can choose what product and equipment i use. I am a fair man and if Smartseal give me a lead i would use there products.
On average the site receives 5000/6000 hits per month but as i have said these figures are all pretty meaningless....it's jobs that count.
-
I don't believe that you are getting 5/6000 hits per month and not managing to convert some of those into sales.
Where does that figure come from?

You had 93000 visitors (approx) and had sales of £232.00.
There is no way that you are getting so many hits. Those figures are being manipulated by someone along the way or you should be a bloody millionaire!!
Rob ;D
-
In the last month blast-away.co.uk got 1,262 visits. 1,008 were unique visitors. 3,244 page views.
Strange how your site is configured to hidden on the stats Chris. Presumably set by smart seal.
-
Sales are from people buying sealer direct from my "online shop". I don't offer this anymore due to lack of interest..as the figures show.
Does Check-a-trade sell advertising on "hits/enquiry " figures....i asume it has been quoting you this type of thing. I am not telling you your job but be carefull when dealing with "salesmen".
The Smartseal website is good value for money...£290 thats it and £90 a year hosting after that. It's a cheap advert!
I just have to put up with you lot taking the p out of me for being a smartseal, resiblock, advanced sealingsolutions, pics "approved contractor.
-
Strange how your site is configured to hidden on the stats Chris. Presumably set by smart seal.
I dont understand the question?
-
I dont assume for one minute my site gets anything like that amount of traffic.
ItI does not really matter how many hits it gets on graph, it's how often the phone rings from people finding the website that i measure in terms of success.
-
But we'll never know who the winner is now :'(
Kevin, Indian sandstone - will you post a link to a suitable sealer for outside. I know I won't seal anymore but its for the outlaws. Please.
My choice would be a penetrating enhancing sealer. This brings out the beauty of all the fossils and features on an Indian Sandstone and as long as they understand that when they clean it it has to be done with a soft to medium brush on a Rotary and some pH Neutral Cleaner to preserve the integrity of the sealer they will be fine! Roger mentions Lithofin MN Stainstop however my choice would be Aqua Mix Enrich N Seal and it's not because I sell it either. It is because that is what we use on our work when we are doing it. PS I will be selling Lithofin as well soon for the Diehards who still love the stuff!
Alternatively if they don't want the stone enhancing then Aqua Mix Sealers Choice Gold

Very seldom at the end of the day We are Natural Stone Renovation Specialists and ultimately Fluoropolymers work by changing the the make up of the stone. So essentially I see them as a type of vitrification product. There also seems to be some confusion as some say they are Breathable and others disagree. Have you tried them? If so What brands?

I have been using them mainly on sandstone and to help repel chewinggum/staining etc. As far i as i am aware they do not really come under the classification of "vitrification" (as i under stand it).
To me the main attraction is the breathability.... hence there application on the likes of Indian sandstone etc ...it's all about ease of application and longevity of the sealed surface ( before re-application).
In hindsight i suppose really we are working in two different areas of the stone restoration business. I am working with the cheapest variety/grade of imported stone,in less than idea conditions with contractors who do not full understand the parameters in which jobs can be successfully undertaken.
As far as "brands" go my mate makes these products up in his garden shed from stuff he gets sent from the italians.
Kevin would you care to test some against other products i could send you some ?

Kevin,
Not a problem, I do need to seal mine at some point this summer so will use both and let you know how they compare,
I had to do test pieces for a client with various brands on Limestone and the Aqua-Mix was by far the best. I did find on Limestone that Lithofin wasn't anywhere near as good.
-
Roger would you like to compare the Fluoropolymer as well ?....i could send you some. It would be a good test against the generally accepted best products in the business...Lithofin and Aqua Mix. If you are applying it at your own home you could monitor it daily over the next 4/5 years.
