Go on an accountants forum and they talk like we do.

What I found out is they love this s/w and its free for the basic version. Also most think Sage is pants surprisingly.

I use D.I.Y Accounting which use custom built spreadsheets which do it all fall you, cashflow, profit and loss and Self-Assessment Return, costs around £15 per year and very easy to use. Just google diy accounting and you will find the link to them.

Yes a point worth raising, sw won't replace an accountant it's there so you can keep track of how you are doing week. By week.

We have used sage for years and pay monthly and get the latest software updates. It is a sophisticated package but you can basically use as much or as little of the package as you want. You could run a large business on it or a small business. If you buy the programme you will get the telephone help (for a limited period) which you will not get with a lot of programes, for us the monthly cost is worth it for the help if we have any queiries or want to introduce another aspect of the programe.
We use sage but still use an accountant, sage allows us to present our figures in a protocol that any decent accountant will be familiar with. In the past I have used software reccomended by a specific accountant only to find that if you want to change accontants, you will need to re do your figures as they do not use that software.
The telephone help is a great time saver.

Sage is used to manage own accounts and payroll throughout the year.

This is copied onto a CD and passed onto an accountant at the end of the financial year, along with your actual accounts.

Our accountant does not deal with our day to day accounts, nor would I want him too. How can you be on top of things if you don't know where you are at any given time?

Having Sage also helps keep our accountants bill at a reasonable rate as it simplifies / speeds up the transfer of data from us to him.

As a company Sage are a bit pushy, but the product does exactly as required, so worth the cost.

We use quickbooks our accountant comes along makes sure she is happy with what we have entered, downloads a copy and sorts it all out. Like all software programs takes some getting used too but we do everything through it.
