We knew a window cleaner a couple years back who only did shops, no domestic. Does anyone here do that anymore?
From what I read on this forum, I get the impression that most cleaners seem to complain about how very low the payments are, unless you have lots of shops in a high street, something that is diminishing.
Then others here say how wonderful they're doing cleaning 'all' the shops.
Personally I haven't got any.

two guys in my town do nothing but shops, one is close to retiring though as is not bothered about losing a few to nationals, the other only does it part time now, my brother and dad before him were 100% commercial and actually shops were not high on their priority's but now my brother is doing domestic work he would have never done before

theres a little old bloke does loads round my way,charges not much and is terrible,smears and runs everywhere.soaps the windows with a mop.was asked to do one once and gave a price of a tenner its ok ernie does them for 2 quid.
everytime i see him he looks smaller.
he probably does 20 shops a day at 2 quid each.

You do get a bit of that with national window cleaning contracts.

I do 80% commercial and 20% domestic when it rains shops are great but tbh the shops are a pain in the hoop due to low price I sub contract asdas tescos etc and for what you get for a tesco I could make in 2 hrs doing a decent domestic run with two men

We used to have a team of 2 guys doing national contractor shop work 5 days a week.
The company that we were doing them for were actually paying decent money at the time, all good things come to an end though.
Some of the prices that I'm hearing now are absolutely disgusting and impossible to make pay. We were doing around £2k a week worth of just shops. To do that now you'd have to be doing about 400 shops a week.

The nationals are the curse of the window cleaning trade for driving down prices and creaming off the top.

I hate commercial ... I stick to houses only iv had a few shops garages, care home, etc and there crap so work on I hate manual cleaning I find houses much better for the way I work

After a break and coming back ive got to admit that i disagree with my remark. I'm full of cold, laid up and grouchy. And i struggle to see humour in some of its guises.

What's the big deal with shops? If Mrs Brown and Mrs Smith get cleaned every month or 8 weeks etc, they could only take about 30 minutes to clean and pay 40 quid between them. Most shop fronts may take 10 minutes and only pay 4 quid. If you haven't got lots of compact shop work, why chase after them?
In my time in this game, I've found the majority of shops aren't too bothered about standards, and not only that, most will drop you for a new guy for less than a quid. We do a few shops locally, because they are on route to other work. A petrol station is on route too, and we charge less than 7 quid on that. Takes about 10 minutes, but as I said, it's on route to domestic work.
If you look at the time taken and the end earnings after costs, you need to think if it's worth chasing crap work like shops.
Gav is a good lad, and has put a lot of faith into that sort of work. Good for him, Dave Morris makes it pay too, but it's not all milk and honey IMO. I'll stick to mostly domestics. I leave the shop stuff to those who know how to make it worth doing.

Personally I dont see why you cant just say the shops you are getting. I know some stores dont like it to be common knowledge but I cant see why. Some people might rely on these stores and whilst there is nothing they can do to stop the changeover saying things like get the kleenex out is a bit of a p take, some poor bugger my be losing their livelyhood.

We make shops pay as typically, my boys will start at 6.00am inside a dept store for 2 hours, then will head out and do about a dozen up to about 30 shops locally in the town they are in, then venture out 2 an office block or apartments on the way back, if they get back early they will jump on houses until they want to finish, if they want to work late, they would jump a school etc at 3.30 and work until about 6.00pm.
our work is 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, no matter what the weather, my guys don't stop, but as you say its not without its problems, logistically it is a nightmare, and I am stressed out 24/7, I can handle that at the moment as it is part of a masterplan, I just hope I can to where I am going without killing myself.
My employees are running a book to see who is going to give me a heart attack first.

Just to let you know Gav, Aquaclean are still going.....'in-all but name'.
They are now under the arm of Fullcircle and have been for last few months.....
Same window cleaners (van's sign-written Fullcircle) , same office staff and operating from the same office premises in Cardiff ;).
Go get-um kid.....they're a bunch of sneaky w@nkers.

For whats its worth the same thing happened to me a couple of times. And I appreciate you cant say what stores until the present guys get told officially. No chance of getting anything from the Aquaclean lot now I suppose? Which stores did you do for them buggers?

The company i used to work for just did shops and commercial work. They had a few BIG domestic houses only. 4 vans 2 in each, was good fun lol

Gav, I have been ripped off a couple of times by these companies so I know its not nice. I'm sure people must of had some sympathy for you, not that it helps, if they didn't then sod them, but I would hope not many, if any took much joy out of some company getting you, or anyone else for that matter myself included, to do a fair job and not get paid when they had collected the dosh and not passed on your share. Like I said in earlier post its happened to me and its bloody (can I say that?) annoying to say the least.
