I used it when we were still trying to grow fast. Yes, definitely worth it but, like anything, you need to consider exactly what you're doing.
Start with a low weekly budget and see how much you spend and what the effect is. Ask every single customer who phones where they heard about you so you can see how many leads you get. Keep accurate records of cost per customer.
It was the cheapest customer generation method we used in 2011/12, by far. Like anything, to make a success of it, you do have to work at it.

Im using it at the min, gonna let it run for the year. Have it a couple of months now and got couple of jobs out of it so far, but hoping to get more coming into spring. Was £99 to set up and £20 per month after. The company im using is search engine easy. They said its £20 per month per search phrase you want to use but mine is coming up under serveral, but just think they were trying to get more money out of me :)
-
You only pay when people click on your advert - and people only see your ad when they search for the terms you select. £20 per month for one phrase (or variation thereof) is expensive - and inefficient if you offer several services(gutter cleans, window cleans etc)
-
i just go on google and click everyones ads.
go on the same link 20 times in 5 minutes, costs them a bomb ;D

Not if they have the brains to put a daily limit on the amount spent ;) ;)

Google aren't quite as daft as you then. Doesn't cost the advertiser at all. Do you really think Google's computers can't tell what you're doing?
You must be very proud of yourself, though. Well done.

It's highely unlikely that they'll be charged, and if they are it would be refunded within a few days. Google's system is actually quite good at picking up 'invalid clicks'. Complete waste of time doing it, and I think if this is what you spend your time doing, you've got more important problems than your competitors internet advertising, although I do think (hope) you are trolling for a response :P

Cowboy - if you want to know about Adwords, drop me an e-mail and I'll explain how it works if you like, see if it's any good for you. Info@PageCrest.co.uk

i use adwords all the time, averages that i get 10 x's worth of work to what it costs me.
BUT, pay someone who knows about it to set it up for you. Fella who does my sites set mine up, one off fee £75 i think it was, best money i ever spent!!!

In your opinion its not set up right,
But I'm quite happy with the £2205.00 that I picked up this month of which £225.00 is every 6 weeks. But if you know how I can improve that please let me know

Hi Alex. Not been party to previous discussions about your Adwords. It sounds fine though. I usually aim for a 1000% return but often get nearer 1200-1400%. Yours is in the right place mate. :)

i want to start an adwords campain this year but not really sure how to set up properly is there any good sites or links to read up on it something impartial as i want to do my homework first.

It's difficult to talk anyone through creating an efficient campaign (I normally spend 2-3 hours on initial setup, then a few hours over the first few weeks making tweaks to make it better, as well as proposing changes to website to reduce costs/increasing rankings). The pages above give a bit of information if you haven't got a clue.

I personally fell that adwords express is a great place to start.
You will always get back what you invest, you just have to be prepared to pay. Give it a 2 month trial,

If you sell window cleaning equipment in Guidford it is set up right. Otherwise it is not my opinion, it is fact.

OK
Well I let my ROI speak for itself, its an automated service, its gonna put some oddball suggestions in. All I care about is if it makes more than I spend, and it does.
For me it helped me learn the basics, and then I started changing over to Adwords.
But if you want to keep telling me I am wrong, then please bash away

Alex - of your campaign is working well then sometimes 'if it ain't broke, then don't fix it' is a good idea. However, if you're also attracting clicks from irrelevant searches, it might be worth reviewing your negative keywords (this relates to adwords, not adwords express).

I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong. Last month I spent £200.00 exactly. From that, I got over £2600.00 work. If Alex is doing something wrong, then so am I. Please explain.... ???

I have no idea what if anything you are doing wrong. Oh, other than constantly "bigging yoursekf up". But Alex is using the wrong parenthesis and thus coming up in search when. people are searching for something else. He is therefore potentially wasting money.
-
Adwords can bring in a lot of business if its setup right, but you need to do your keyword research properly or you could be throwing money away.
Personally I avoid it - my target area is geographically quite small & the number of searches for the services I offer is tiny. In towns & cities it is much better tho.

I think the point I was trying to make is that mine and Alex ROI is roughly the same. Any advertising is about ROI. Some companies spend millions on advertising, some of which is considered to be in the 'wrong place', but if it gives them the ROI, it is worth it.

Right, so some companies knowingly advertise in the wrong place, but it's ok as long as their overall advertising spend provides a return. And earlier, as long as I get back more than I spend, it's all that matters. Seriously chaps? ::)roll
-
In the same light I guess it would be fair to say if you spent the amount of time that you do on here canvassing Steve your time would be better spent.
Seriously chaps?
Yes.

Yes, if it is giving the ROI mine is. A lot of advertising gets no where near my ROI, but they still spend their money. For huge companies who advertise all over the place, they cannot monitor who makes a purchase based on which ad. So they advertise everywhere, because they can afford it, and this drip feeds the public subliminally. It is proven to work. It gives them their ROI too.
We kind of got offline anyway. The original question is about the effectiveness of Adwords. Is it any good? Yes, it can be excellent and you can soon be snowed under with work. It provides an excellent ROI. :)

I think you are right. Not about spending the time canvassing, but spending too much time on the iPad and therefore here. I have been thinking the same lately.
Alex if you are using Adwords, try using [ ] symbols to restrict your impressions to people that actually want a windowcleaner.
-
Windiewasher what you are doing is actually illegal
Steve , nothing wrong with bigging yourself up, most of us appreciate the success stories, keep it up lad

Windiewasher, I find what you are doing to be quite unethical. >:( It's like another window cleaner slashing your tyres every time they see your van, just because they can and just because it costs you money. Would you enjoy that?
Dave, thanks for the very nice comment. I am not consciously 'bigging myself up', but nor will I hide the growth we are experiencing. The solar cleaning particularly is going ballistic at the moment, far beyond what I expected it to do. That's why I was hoping to network on here because I can't physically handle all the enquiries coming in! :)I don't knock it though! ;D

Thanks for the advice.
I was in the process of getting rid of the adwords express ads, as I now know which keywords are working and which ones are not.
