Title: Aworka job order
Post by: Dave Mills on February 28, 2013, 08:11:05 am
Been playing around with Aworka a little and cant get it to do what I want.

We clean every 4 and 8 weeks. The way I organise it now is that I have a route round our covered areas.  I look at the area Im covering tomorrow and look which jobs are due or overdue.  Those I clean.

Listing jobs by date due (which Aworka seems to want to do) is useless to me.  For example, if we run a week late in one cycle, then four weeks later, all of the four-weekly are done and before they come up as due again all of the eight-weekly cleans are coming up as more overdue and clogging up the jobs list - it just doesnt work.

So, is there a way of ordering the jobs sorted by location? Either its not there or I must be missing something.

By location?

How would Aworka know that?

Hi Dave

When adding jobs, you can only view in due date order. I'm going to add a button to allow the list to be changed to round order, which would probably help you, but its not there at the moment.

A workaround might be to organise your work into separate rounds (if you haven't already) by area, or perhaps by frequency, because you would then be able to filter the list by round using a picklist at the bottom of the Add Jobs popup (this won't be visible to you at the moment if you only have one round).

If you need help reorganising let me know...

chris, would you be able to have something where you can drag and drop houses in to the right order for today, i think this would massivly help everyone

Hi Michael

Yes, I'm looking into allowing the day order to be changed by drag and drop. Unfortunately, it's not looking like a particularly quick fix, so I in the interim I'm considering making it possible to rearrange the order via the job sheet first (which would then be reflected back to the planner).

It's worth spending a bit of time getting your round order correct (via Jobs > Rounds > Change Round Order), as this dictates the default order of jobs on the Planner and should reduce the amount of reordering you need to do.

I just drag and drop each  as and when I need to change due to weather etc . Mike

Unfortunately since the update took place on aworka it wont alliw me to nudge a days work forward .

Only work in each round and my round order was messed up last year when I took 2 wks holiday .

Then the weather plays havoc with workload and round order. Mike

Well, each job has a field for which job it follows, so that might be the starting point.  Put that information to proper use and you have your round in order and my problem is solved.

The thing is, I've done a huge amount of work on my current system getting everyone in order - 700 customers took a long time with a map to get in the right order.  This is stopping me from moving to your software.  I really dont want to have do do a (huge) workaround that may be rendered redundant by the arrival of that button.  So, do you have a likely date for the change?

Basically, what I need to be able to do is look at the list by round order, go to the area I'm working tomorrow and just pick the due/overdue ones - will this new sort button allow that?

Yes, I'm aware of that, however that order isnt based on anything in particular; you seem to be asking for something that isnt viable.

I dont understand what you're saying.  The order IS based on something in particular - I spent an age creating the round order.

Ive created that order.  I know that 10 Green Gardens is before 12 Green Gardens which is before 2, The Avenue, etc, etc.  Aworka also knows that order.

So, all I want is to have them show up in that order when Im picking jobs for tomorrow.  I really dont see what's "not viable" about that.  I must be missing something.

Dave: Yes, I believe the new button will allow you to do what you need. The list would be presented in round order, with the colour coding showing which jobs are due. I will check to see how easy this is to do, then get back to you with a date for it to be implemented: watch this space!

Mike: You can still move your work forward a day, but I have added more options to make it more flexible: you can choose how much work to move, in which rounds (including 'all'), the direction, and the number of days/weeks you want to move it. It also takes account of the days you normally work so that shifted work doesn't get scheduled over a weekend, for example. To achieve what the old 'Nudge' button did, you would select to Shift 1 Days work in All Rounds Forward by 1 Day.

Ok thanks Chris i was a bit apprehensive of shifting to much work forward rather than just one days work .

Did not want to make mistakes  thanks . Mike

I don't blame you for being apprehensive Mike, there is the potential to really mess up your planner if you're not careful!

I'm planning to add an 'undo' function soon, so that you'll be able to recover from any mishaps...

Dave: I have now added a new option in Settings, under the Planner section called 'Order Add Jobs by', which you can change to 'Round Order'. Is this any help to you?

Ideally I would just like to drag and drop on the planner to get the jobs in order.

Where does this change things chris, is it the displayed planner order or the order jobs are listed in on the add jobs window

Also Chris been meaning to email you regarding the "notes" i was wondering if its possible to make the note permanent so its displayed on the front page of the jobs screen on mobile instead of having to look in the jobs details

Chris:

The new option only affects the order of the jobs in the Add Jobs popup.

I've had a few requests to add extra info to the job list on the mobile planner screens, e.g. current balance, due date and notes, so I'm thinking about the best layout...

Steve:

I'm going to be adding the facility to reorder a day's jobs on the planner soon, although it isn't a simple fix and will require a bit of an overhaul of the planner in general. However, I've got some other features I'm planning to add at the same time, which I think people are going to like  :)

The cuurent balance is a really good idea that was something else i was going to mention cos at the mo if a customer has a previous debt or over payment then that it self doesn't reflect when you have to tally up with a customer

Keep us informed about the progress with that

How about by clicking on a customers postcode it opens up their location in Google maps?
