silly question really, but was wondering if there is an amount i have to pay towards petrol for employees. And does it have to be paid on the way to the first job, home from the last and all the bits in between, or is it just paid on the jobs inbetween???
Thank you for your replies in advance

Most firms calculate petrol for employes at around 30p -£50p per mile. no idea on domestic cleaning though.
-
Hi Lisa, I'd like to know that too!
Although, as for travelling to the first job it would really be like setting off to work (you don't 'normally'get paid for travelling to work) - same as returning home you wouldn't get paid either Thats what I think anyway??
-
hiya
Thanks for your replys.
I would think of it as travelling to and from work aswell.
its the one off cleans where we might go further afield, i'm not really sure. It's just when i was talking to the princes trust the other day they asked me if i would be paying petrol allowances to employees going to telford from shrewsbury for example, it would be around a 30 mile there and back trip.
-
Hi again,
Well I would definately pay for a 30 mile trip - how much? I'm sorry but I don't know - Couldn't you charge client etxra and then give it to the employee???? Just a thought!
-
That would be the easiest way, just charge the client accordingly, and pay your staff extra to cover the petrol and time.

I would do a search.
I think the answer was 20p a mile for domestic.
I notice that some domestic companies run a fleet of small cars.
How much does that put on the charge out rates?
-
The short answer is that you don't HAVE to pay them anything. But to get decent staff to work in other areas you may want to.
How much you agree between you is up to you but (i) Agree it at the outset (ii) Pass the cost on to your Client.
-
its just i read somewhere about 40p or something. Maybe that is the top limit.
I think i will only do this on one offs and out of area cleans, where i would add it to the bill.
Thanks everyone xx
-
Yes, you did read it somewhere........................
For instance, 40p per mile is what CMS Limited pay me, as MD, for using my own car.
CMS Limited can claim the VAT on the fuel element of that mileage which is 12p.
But don't worry about that just now ;D ;D ;D

oooops got caught evesdropping again ;D
I'm sure my biz advisor was talking about it aswell a while ago, i must have dropped off to sleep when he was rabbiting on, he's also an accountant.
-
Yes 40p per mile is the official tax free ceiling, this takes into account the wear and tear of the vehicle as well as the fuel.any more than this would be taxable.

40p for the first 10,000 miles in the year there after 25p.
-
thanks for your replies.
I take it that i could offer an allowance of 0 to 40p per mile then really.
thanks for helping me clearing that one up.

40p for the first 10,000 miles in the year there after 25p.
Fox is right.
HMRC approved mileage rates and allowances for travel can be found here (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/travel.htm)
;D There is even allowance for bicycles ;D
