Does anyone here clean old aluminium framed windows using WFP? They are 40 + years old, some even worse with rotton wood frames flaking paint everywhere.
I have an absolute load to include in a school quote and as more than half are upper level quoting trad will inflate the price considerably. Ladder access isn't possible thus cherry picker the only other option.
The added problem is this is an annual clean, so aside from the aluminium issue they're bloomin filthy aswell. Maybe the additional rinsing required will make WFP work well enough with the frames.
Cheers

Aluminium frames are a real pain especially when not done frequently as they oxidise and the water washes the oxidisation all over the glass so that it spots and smears badly. If done regularly you can bring them up to standard otherwise it would require a lot of scrubbing.
If you have hot water I would recommend 2 passes, the first hot concentrating mainly on the frames but giving the glass a swipe as well, this will take off as much oxidisation as possible. Second use cold or just warm water on the glass only before the glass is completely dry. This will clean the glass, if you was to use hot again you could be at it all day continually taking more oxidisation off of the frames.
Finally spot check with a back pack picking out the odd bad window.
Simon.

Same views as Simon really.
Over the years we have had a few houses with Ali frames; a couple came right but mostly they didn't.
I think that this is one of those quotes where the school has to be made aware that the windows will be cleaned but streeks will be inevitable. 2 passes maybe the best solution, letting the first dry totally and then washing the glass only, but if the windows are in sections then this would take ages so probably wouldn't be practical.
Sometimes jobs like this are very tempting, but the end results are they take too long and you short change yourself.

Cheers Guys, as I suspected really.
They are in sections, real old fashioned with 10 panes (pains ::)roll) per framed window, approx 8' wide by 6' high and well over one hundred in total.
I'll get the quote over with trad for all of this type but offer WFP at the reduced cost but will qualify the liklihood of a less than perfect finish.
Thanks for your replies.
