I was in the main steet of my local town yesterday morning at around 6.30am when I saw a local window cleaner cleaning shop windows.
Now, it's fair to say that the main street was fairly well lit by street lights, but would you clean windows in the dark??? ???
-
Done it for ages, not a problem on shops and no one get's in the way.
-
Same here. minimum light needed for shops fronts. Some need to be done in pedestrian areas so you have to be finished by 6.30 and gone. Not a problem.
-
Start at 4:30-5:00am some days,at 6:30 the day is nearly over!!
-
Quite reguly clean before 5am in the fffffreeezing cold and dark.
-
Yeah we clean in the dark and as said earlier if its in a pedestrian area it needs to be done, I did a block of flats above some shops thismorning at 6 am, all the residents know its regualr and never compalin and thats 4 stories high
-
Yeah. Always have done.
Never make any money in winter otherwise
-
always like to get shop work done as early as poss .so in winter the get done in the dark... safer that way.never been a prob
-
yes, can't say I enjoy it either. Roll on the lighter mornings !
-

fair play to you guys who do.someones got to clean em but its not for me!! ;D ;D ;D

I've never tried it myself and wondered if it was possible to see if the windows were clean.
I had a look at the windows that this guy had cleaned, once it was light, and they were c**p - didn't even wipe the sills.
-
never had a problem yet ???
-
you just a beginer at this are you ???
or do you think the window cleaning fairies
do the vast majority of the high st ??? ???
-
No not a beginner - been window cleaning for about 6 years, but don't do any shops.
Just commercial and a handful of larger domestic.
Window cleaning fairies aside, I wouldn't be happy cleaning where I couldn't see what I was doing.

Elfyn-cleaning at height, you cant actually see what you're cleaning.
IMO 50ft you can 'see' higher than that-someone on here has as their strap line
"we clean by faith not by sight when working at height"
same in the dark IMO
Aside, we clean at 5 floors a job in the dark with a street light right in the middle of where we stand, light shining in our eyes, dark everywhere else-can just about make out the glass from the cladding! But we do inside the following day-been doing it 6 years now and it's (nearly) perfect-everytime.
If you're the sort of person who doesn't mind working in the dark-give it a shot, you may make a few $ out of it. It's not for everyone though

Once you've cleaned upteen-thousands-of-windows, you kinda just trust your technique.
If you're too prissy, you're making more work for yourself at the expense of making more dosh.
Clean windows just have to be clean enough; perfection is for people with insecurity problems.

When I used to do alot of town / shop work i always worked in the dark in the winter.

Elfyn, When, or if, you go and get some shop fronts in the future, you'll soon find that you can work in half light, near dark conditions. You may have checked some blokes work and found it poor, I find that here where I am too. However, cleaning at 5 am in the morning all year round is a fact of life in this game. If you don't understand how it works, just leave it to those who do. There's loads of other stuff for you to clean in the day light ;D
