hi,
cleaned a carpet today, sort of corded, natuarial rope colour, seemed like hemp? any way not wet cleanable, shrank only a little and ive been lucking understanding custy in fact she wanted me to continue cleaning. think i can strech it back fine, but custy like to know what carpet is it? how/ if can be cleaned?
bit like seagrass i think? looks bad when wet, patchy, very absorbent. custy tells me its wool, it has a felt back.
many thanks craig

I would say with a Host .

I have had good results on corse almost rope type hair fibre using fibre shampoo and rotary brush the finer stuff (like coir) requires the Host treatment - did one in an atic the other day tried to clear up draugh marks, dam awful stuff. Dog had done a number one so I did extract then dry cleaned ,stain still looked awfull though but cust was happy. Trouble with the natural fibres are that there are a lot of diferent types out there but I dont see too many so I dont get as used to them as I would or common types of carpet and rugs. No I didnt wear gloves it was 2 years old - the pee that is.

hi yes horrible stuff, and if say you go over an area thats more dirty it gets darker and darker as it sucks the water in, custy said when she bought it they said it was wool, but its very course? maybe its mixed with some naterial material, how does host wosk? is that a dry clean chemical, brushed and extracted? i only ever use hwe.
-
I think I am right in saying the dry , or almost dry substance is corn crusts with (sovent soaked in). The only way I get good results with dry cleaning is to pre spray, agitate, then dry clean. oh not forgetting to hoover well before and after the event and not forgetting the dwell time.

thanks, ok so its a dry clean, but what about the material, could it be hemp? i think thats what naterial rope is, and looked like that, only custy says its wool but can wool be that absorbent? didnt smell of wool, sorry for keeping on this one but custy wants info for future ref. i dont want to misinform her

Could one of a whole range, Coir, Sisal,Jute all natural products from plants.
Could be a wool/sisal mix, wool cord, flax an so on.
With out a photo or a burn test it's difficult to be exact.
My hunch is that its Sisal which as with all natural ranges, Sisal, coir, jute seagrass etc which are plant derived, should not be wet cleaned due to shrinkage.

Sounds like jute or a natural type carpet. i walk from these as its too much hassle and never a great result.
Only seen a handful in 6 years.

ok, thanks guys. i think now i can give custy a good idea of material, (obvously ill tell her cant be certain) but its naterial product.
;D ;D ;D

Sounds like Sisal. Don't touch it. I tried the other day and got burnt! From now on, I will only ever dry clean and protect with stain guard. That is something you can sell them quite safely. At least the solvent based stuff dried out nicely and works well.
Just don't try any stain removal.
