I am getting a tank fitted into van next week then i am doing the rest fitting the pump/controller and di etc in the van.
I going to use john guest push fit fittings .. can you get a 1 inch fitting for the tank? if not what would be the best option for the inital tank outlet socket.
-
i used one of these,
http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/Compression/Compression+Elbow+Male+22mm+x+1/d20/sd2697/p16197
go to local plumbing place to get one, as these only come in packs of 10
then one of these to reduce down to 15mm pushfit
http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/John+Guest+Speedfit/Reducer+22mm+x+15mm/d20/sd3307/p54466
-
1 inch to 3/4 reducer then 3/4 to 1/2 reducer then 1/2 male JG
http://youtube.com/watch?v=VyTIuY49m0Y
I use 1/2 pipe and fittings Richard uses 15mm fittings.
Mine were from Gardiners

there is plenty of thread on them, we use them in domestic plumbing of hot water cylinders and tanks etc.

It's a simple reducer like the ones you get with Hoseloc.

when putting plastic fittings into the brass thread of the tank make sure you use some ptfe tape and make sure you dont cross thread or over tighten them, as plastic will thread or crack easily causing leaks.
being a plumber, one other reason not to use plastic is incase you drop something on it it will break and crack off, leaving you with a van full of water and an empty tank, plastic over time wears and can crack as brass fittings wont. not ideal if you use warm water in the tank as this will cause the plastic to expand and contract which can also lead to leaks.
-
But if you use brass and drop something on it you're more likely to split the tank than the fitting.
Fittings are cheaper to replace. I'd go with plastic in this particular case.
Personally I use one of these:

not at all, because there is a brass thread already in the tank and that part of the tank is reinforced, so wont break easily, to break that you will need a very heavy force. all plasitc part are only made from a thin plastic that.
-
Fair enough, but it would be best with a tapered thread.

yes tapered threads are used in some plumbing for high pressure work.
on plastic pipes due to the wedging effect of the tapered thread, extreme care must be used to avoid overtightening the joint. The overstressed female fitting may split days or weeks after initial fitting.
-
could someone let me know if this fitting would be ok to screw onto a shurflow pump like the one in sunshines video. http://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/john-guest-speedfit-fittings-167/john-guest-speedfit-bent-3244.htm .
Thanks :)
-
Yes that will be fine to use, just watch out for cross threading.
-
thanks for the relplys much appreciated.

if you wanted to do it that way there is 2 ways you can do it:-
way 1 :-
use these parts
http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/Compression/Brass+Hexagon+Bush+1+x+34/d20/sd2697/p42593
http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/John+Guest+Speedfit/Straight+Tap+Connector+15mm+x+34+BSP/d20/sd3307/p59982
http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/Compression/Brass+Hexagon+Nipple+34/d20/sd2697/p63570
or way 2 (i have done this one my tank wasnt an 1" fitting, it was just a 3/4")
use these 2 parts, first one only come in a pack of 10 from here, so have to go local plumbing centre to pick one up,
dont use B&Q they are 2-4 times the cost than you would pay at plumb centre
http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/Compression/Brass+Hexagon+Bush+1+x+34/d20/sd2697/p42593

Richard's ways would definitely work. Most WFP suppliers do not stock 15mm fittings as these are usually a plumbing merchants department.
I am curious as to why 15mm is being used here? Is it it being hard plumbed in copper or 15mm Speedfit hose? We find that most clients stick to 1/2" as the range of fittings available from WFP & RO outlets are more extensive in these imperial sizes.

Think this is the best way for me to go... stright out of tank into john guest fitting. hopefully no leaks.
Fed up of leaks with my current system this time make everything joh guest hopefully will stop or at least cut down a lot of leaks

I can understand that, wanting everything local.
I also only use John Guest in my van. John Guest from the tank to strainer, strainer to the 2 pumps and from the 2 pumps to the twin outlets. In reality this only uses 3 different John Guest fittings and I can easily keep one of each of these as spares in the van at very little cost.

i use 22mm push fit pipe to start with then down to 15mm to the pumps.
stronger fittings, easy to use, cheaper, pick them up from anywhere, solid pipe, pipe will never split or wear,
-
Put fittings on today haven't been able to test them out yet hopefully will be ok, could do with some ideas for the hose to hose reel prefer not to have it hanging from the pump outlet as in the pics.

if you are talking about the white round bit thats a tap to shut water off to the pumps

Yeah thats right, because i cant turn the water off from the main tap i have put that there so i can turn the flow off to the pumps because on the nights when it freezes i take the whole board out that the pumps and controllers are attached too and take them inside all i have to do is release the pipe the goes into it now.
