Title: Canvassing
Post by: Danny Guest on February 05, 2013, 12:17:03 pm
Out last night and gained £125 per month of work.
Not many in and 70% happy with current cleaner.

Back out again tonight!

I can't wait to get going. Anyone else growing their business for 2013?

Regards Danny

Yes mate im at it too. Not a bad result at all there. I was out and only picked up £60 worth last night but every little helps, its best to work out what you achieve month by month instead of by day i find. Last month i picked up an extra £880 a month all from soley canvassing. Hoping to hit the same or better this month. Just keep knocking.

What % would you expect to be good long term customers?

Well george says i have been through 2753 customers 38 on suspended and i have 1344 current customers mainly monthly with a small percent at 8weekly so i have roughly a 50 percent retention overall over the last 5 years which id say is quite good going.

Interesting comparison to my own figures. Since I started here in Ireland in August 2011 I have had 363 customers. Around 170 are regular/semi regular, I have dropped 6 and the rest are one-offs or ring me when they need me.

Yes i think anything around the 50% mark retaining as a regular is on to a winning run. Anything below id question my ability to do the job properly.

Quite easy in fact to easy if im honest as finishing by 2-2.30 most days.its only  25 a day for each of the 2 vans im actualy canvassing heavy at the mo to up them so everyday will be 35 a day.
All my work has been canvassed to my needs which has mainly been well priced fronts and made sure everything is compact.

Never realy canvass in the day deangsi the few times i have have been crap unless its  the weekend where you can pick up loads in the day. Between 5.30 and 8.30 mon to fri i find by far the best time to get out knocking and anytime within reason weekends.

Good luck to everyone canvassing and leafleting

why are you shocked to high to low ?

these are about right I have found, even with contracts in place the long term drop off comes to around this figure ok maybe 10/15% higher with contract but still drops

Things must be different here up North. I have never door knocked (not saying door knocking is a bad thing) All my customers come from leaflets or recommendation. Leaflets have the prices on and clearly state its for a ongoing monthly (4 weeks) clean.
Percentage wise I run a little over 4 % drop off rate this is based over the last 3 years wfp. Also have 23 suspended for bad payment or dog mess.
Not blowing our trumpet or saying others are doing something wrong.
We charge a 'fair' price clean all frames and vents including all garage doors.

There are a few good companies in my area, but the largest (Around 7 vans with around 20 windies) is not so hot with customer satisfaction so I seem to do well in retaining the ones I can fit into the round.

in the whole time since building your round from scratch you have only lost 4%???? Pull the other 1. So no one dies, moves, loses job, son does it, husband decides to do it, cant afford it, 1 off brigades, messers etc etc have ever been on your round???.

Do you guesstimate the price and write it on the flyer? or do you have fixed prices for 3bed semis etc?

What daz is saying I can second , running a round down south is so bloody stressful compared to up north lol I used to remember the days when I'd say I have 7 customers who canceled this year! or ritten off £45.
Lol now I'm writing off £500+ a year and god knows how many cancelations
or go out knocking and keep 100% of the customers lol, everything was less stressful I also heard that leafleting works some fairy tale stories of over %2 return ,we can get away with charging much more down south but the lies customers will say to your face are shocking compared to relaxing 4 weekly Frequencies up north where people actually want you to turn up are worlds apart , sometimes I wonder the amount of hours and money I spent on canvassing who knows where I'd be better off , down here you do find customers who are serious too but no way near as easy up north

Im running on 4 weekly frequency and have customers wanting me to go back to 2 weekly.

I am canvassing both 2 weekly and 4 weekly and find people in my areas tend to want the windows cleaned as often as possible. Theres a guy here who does clean every week and charges not much less than my fortnightly price.

Ive been doing commercial quotes this week so ive had no canvassing done but i will be out again on saturday. Slowly working my way towards the goal.
