If I turn my boosted 4040 on at 4pm by 7am next day it will have done 1000 litres. Would a merlin be any quicker ?
Have the 4040 on a 50 50 ratio are merlins any better ?

merlins waste a shed load of water and I would say they would be slower.
how often you changing your filters and flushing the 4040 ?
what is the pressure and the flow out of your tap, because thats is very slow production I am making twice that with a 4040

No. Merlins have 70% waste

No a 40 inch membrane is 2300 GPD, a merlin is 720 GPD, so 4040 is quicker.
40inch set ups tend to have a control valve so you 'Flush' the waste away, the Merlins dont as standard so rely on constant flow to get rid of the waste hense a worse ratio.

also how long you had this and what is your waste set at ?

Blimey! I have a 4040 1000ltr static set up from pure freedom - will fill in about 4 to 4 1/2 hrs max with booster pump
Something must be set wrong mate - or need changing

Thats very very slow - i run my at 50/50 its boosed i have very very low pressure when on flush it doest even hit 1 bar probably a run through pressure of 12 psi - it takes me about 6/7 hours to produce 1000 litres pure.

The 4040 is about 4 years old and change prefilters every 3 months.
The booster pump gets up to 80psi then pressure switch turns it off till drops to 40psi then on it goes again to 80psi then cycle starts again ....... not ideal as bought wrong pump 2 years ago but as it cost 400 quid it was staying.
Will be changing it soon after reading how quick u guys are producing !!

sounds to me you need to adjust your booster pump settings.
how often you flushing ?

30 minutes twice a month but it dont make it any quicker ...... the on off of the pump is the problem but didnt realise it was that poor until today

I have a merlin which is pumped.
It produces about 200 ltrs per hour at a tds of 12 and the di polishes it to 000.
If you do the maths it will tell you that my pumped merlin produces 1000 ltrs in 5 hrs.

Merlins need good pressure and even then waste loads.
4040 all day long if you need a lot of water and quickly.

As you've gathered the pressure fluctuation is very bad, they do state a maximum pressure change on the membranes data sheet i think its about half a bar (7.5 PSI roughly). WHat you need to do is bypass the pressure switch so it stays on constant. Its a case of pulling the wires out of the switch and wiring them up direct and bypassing it. Any spark/auto elec should be able to do that easily for you if you aint sure yourself.

Rephrase that. Is there anything better and faster than a 4040 or is my one just not performing correctly?
