Title: Very Slow ro water (Alex gardiner)
Post by: geefree on January 28, 2013, 10:55:04 pm
Hi,

My pure water from the 300gpd is coming out very slow ..... 250 litres in ten hours....

my pressure is normal, filters and membranes or new ish.... it normally produces 600 in that amount of time....

my waste is pumping out much faster too.... i flush the membranes regular...

Im at a loss !!!!

i will say that when i got the membranes , they were very tight and hard to get into the housings... very very very tight !

are they too compact ?as i know membranes are made up of layers upon layers...

Thanks for any help.

Gary.

Hi  Gazza "same"!

Typical my pressure gauge on ro is bust.

But before i brought setup indoors from the big freeze thought it was slower.

I think Ro mans website suggests 65 psi for best running rates.

My ro is at my parents place; no garden at mine.

Usually psi is 70.

I will have to ger gauge to replace on ro unit £10

Is there not pressure gauge on your unit gazza?

I reckon that's our problem.

forgot to add and i suppose silly thing to mention; as i'm sure you realise Gaz.

winter and summer cause burst pipes and leaks in the network.

This would explain low pressure; if you don't have low pressure then ask supplier of your ro system maybe it has incurred damage in cold weather.

I doubt it, not something to brag about but my ro has frozen a few times in the 7 years i've had it :o

Good luck Gaz; i hope we both sort and likes hope it's psi.

The cold weather effects production rates .

check membranes in right way, when i first got mine i did that,   had to force them in,   they should easily slide in.

Gazza my system is 7 years old 200 gpd ro-man

Can't remember when/if ever i changed membranes :o

I will do this later in week, i'm ordering pressure gauge tonight as my one kaputt on RO, probably when froze up ;D

Your membranes are newish then, has your RO froze up in cold spell, maybe membranes got frost bite.

You say waste water is alot more.

Could something be wrong with flush mechanism stuck in flush mode even though looks ok (mine has blue tap on Ro, when in 12 o'clock position ro production 9 0'clock flushing.

Did you disconect ro during big freeze and maybe pushed tubing into wrong john guest fittings (so somethings back to front?)

Sorry Gaz, sure not case just thinking out loud.
Good luck; let us know what it was as might happen to me.
Hope to sort mine this week.

Ps. if using 2mm pencil jets, maybe switch to fan jets or 1mm pencils Gardiners sell both I know doesn't solve ro, but you'l use less water.
Goodluck

That sounds right to me - pressure OK but waste excessive.  You could buy a new flush valve or: do as on a 40-40 system - bit of extra pipework and create a bypass so you split the waste pipe in two then join it together again.  In each of the two pipes put a quarter turn plastic tap.  One is shut during production and fully opened during flushing.  The other is set to your required product to waste ratio.  That eway you have complete control over how much waste to pure you produce.

It sounds like either of the following:

1. The membranes have become frost damaged
2. The flow restrictor on the 300gpd system has worn out. A new one will lower the waste to the correct level and restore production if it is this. You can buy them from Ro-Man - http://www.ro-man.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&filter_name=restrictor&page=2&product_id=310

Alex Gardiner, is the link a flush kit, ... because i have that on mine.... or a flow restrictor ... meaning i can speed up the pure production?

Thanks,

Gary.

Hi Gary

That link was for a flush kit that contains a flow restrictor. I could not find a link for just the flow restrictor - although if you gave them a call I'm sure that they do sell just flow restrictors on their own.
