Hi Souter, a while ago you gave a few tips about fitting out a Defender for WFP.
I bought one today and wanted to pick your brains about how to fit it out for wfp. I have a wfp van too with a two man 650 system in and I want to use the Landy for other things and wfp sometimes.
The spare wheel is currently fixed in the back, on the side. It is a 110 High Cap version so can carry quite a bit. I thought about a 500 litre tank with the pump and battery fitted to a board or in a box of some type. There is no canopy/cover yet. Ideally it would be something I could take out and refit easily to allow different uses.
Any advice or ideas?
By the way, I drove it through Dewsbury {where I bought it} and three other defender drivers waved at me :) reminded me of my motorbike days when most other bikers would let on. Feel like I have joined a club..

Well done :-)
What age , tdi or td5?
Should have min of 1ton payload so 500 or 650
Tank will be fine, ifor Williams do Canopus for rear if you need one.

Hello Tom,
We will be putting up a complete build blog on our website in the next couple of weeks. We have never fitted one in a hi-cap ours are fitted in 110 hardtops which we have modified to be pickups.
We have custom designed tanks which fit in ours, it is well worth spending the extra cash now as the tank is the most important part, get it right and your Landy will be perfectly stable and you wont compromise your load space. Obviously as yours is a different shape my tanks would be no use to you.
If you have anything you want to ask fire me an email and I'll do my best.

Thanks Tom/Souter
It is a 2003 TD5 and no pics yet, covered in snow just now. I think I got a decent one {fingers crossed}. It's a one owner 177k miles on the clock but they fitted a brand new engine and clutch 2 years/30000 miles ago, chip for power and economy so it runs very well. Absolutely no rust on it anywhere underneath. Fitted tow bar, good tyres etc.
Went out in the snow this morning just for a drive :) don't do that in the van.

I nearly succumbed to a rather pretty 130 up in Bolton yesterday but It was too much money and Probably just too long... I do like the idea of a 110 or even a 90. Souter is teh 90 too short for a one man setup? And how much would a custom tank to get setup. And Im assuming they are is stainless..

You can get aplastic tank made for about £300- £500
Depending on size shape etc.
-
Our tanks are plastic. We have 6 which fit together, 2 rows of three.
The initial set up was £500+ but we've bought 6 or 7 complete tanks now and because the pattern is made they are less than £50 a section.

Perfect.

Just a baby. We have one with 200,000 sailed through it's MOT first time.

Let me know how you get on with that. Never tried it but have considered it.
Absolutely no rust on it anywhere underneath.
The place to check for rust is the bulkhead, thats where they go first.

Cheers guys. The top looks ok Tom but it's quite a distance from me. Just been looking at the security options that are available. I didn' t realise how nickable they are.
-
Buy a disclock and skytag tracker .
Did you pay £6k or did you knock him down?
-
Knocked him down a bit 5600 Tom. Will stick a couple of pics up soon.

Hi,
We just bought a 55 plate 110 TD5 for towing our cherry picker. 127,000 miles ex Scottish power 6k + VAT.
Loving it at the moment with the snow. Just taken it to Alisport in Gloucester for EGR removal, decat exhaust, new middle section and performance air filter fitted for a bit better performance.
Next step new inter cooler and chip for a lot more torque and bhp.
There's a picture of it on www.windowcleanerscardiff.co.uk
Cheers,
Huw

Although it did have a nasty knocking noise when we first got it. The dealer had fitted the wrong size UJ on the front prop and it was knocking like mad at 50mph. And the turbo waste gate was seized, common fault apparently.
Drives a lot better now.

I think they are the future :) couldn't' see your's on the website Seerclean.

Are you going to fit a wfp system in it?

Out of interest, why have 6 small tanks that fit together as oppose to one if its custom made anyhow ?

Oh I see, that kinda makes sense, however I contacted a firm before about custom tanks and baffling was built in as a matter of course anyways to add strength and rigidity to the tank.

Yes, I do plan to stick a tank in but want it to be easily removed to enable me to use it for other things. I will measure it up and see what size tank makes sense. I am very interested in seeing your blog when it' s done tho cos I might change my mind and go for a similar set-up.
