Where would I be likely to buy (type of establishment) 12ft long metal round poles for hanging rugs on to dry.
Or should I stick with 4x2 lengths of wood covered in drain pipe which works but I need longer.
Or any other suggestions.
Thanks
Mark

Scaffold poles, second hand from a scaffold firm you can also get the fittings

Hurt like hell if they fall down ( I know) stick with the wood

Get 4.8 meters and chop a bit off and make a T end hold them on rails well

Forget the wood ;) I have 24ft poles (aluminium) steel will span even further.
Fix them up with the proper scaffold fitting and they will never fall

Scaffolding poles is what we use but also get some plastic pipe to use as a sleeve to cover them (i forget the size right now). That does two things, it stops any marks from the metal poles and makes them easy to wipe the fluff and stuff off, AND makes the rugs easier to load because the plastic pole spins on the scaffold pole. Or, the first lot we had done we had plastic dip coated, but our guys prefer the pipe sleeve ones.

OD of scaff is 52mm if your going to cover it with something, go Ali over steel over a 12ft distance will make putting them up lots easier! if your fixing these to a wall at each end use 'key clamps' they have no sharp bits and won't rust
