Hi Just wondering what companies will insure a tank in the back of van, my current insurer had to contact the underwriters not had that before :-[ but they would not cover it.
-
insurance companies have slowely clicked onto the "WFP" system and the fact they class it has a modification. my isurance is more now then 7 years ago with moreno claims because of it but i know im safe that iv i need to claim im covered..

-
I'm with Adrian flux and they told me they would charge any extra to have a tank in the back. That was about 6 months ago that I asked
-
£300 fully comp, including protected no claims, legal protection AND top level full UK breakdown/recovery.
However, my van is not "modified"! ;)

Well you have a newer van than me for a start and obviously worth more.
Maybe a higher insurance group than a Berlingo but not sure. :-\

2005 and probably only worth a couple of grand to be fair.
plus im 38 so might make a small difference.
Just realised I thought you said you had a 2010 astravan but I got you mixed up with someone else! ???
What van have you got then Dave?
-
no ive got a 2007 combo at the moment
-
Only advice I can give you is to keep ringing round the insurance companies to try and get the best quote and policy.
I don't bother with the comparison websites because you have to tell them you have a water tank in the van and then wait for them to get back to you.
It's best to sort it out over the phone in my opinion.
Make sure you tell them about the water tank otherwise insurance is null and void.
-
I'm with A-plan, told them about heater as well.
-
thanks Andy,
just had a quote from more than water tank fitted etc.. £645 paid in all one go or works out £813 monthly a lot!!! of interest but still cheapest so far.

It is strapped in with ratchet straps across the top from left to right along with dunnage at one side and at rear . Was advised by relative who has worked in transport for over 20yrs in the armed forces. Mike

The reason I asked Mike is because some insurance companies don't class the water tank as a modification if it is "removable" or strapped in.
-
I think an important factor is weight and also if the tank has any room to move my tank almost fills the entire load bed. So it can only move an inch or so if it were to move
Also a pick up.truck has 2 bulkheads so is far safer than a tank in a van . Mike

But you obviously DO Roland, sorry, Ronald! Every time this issue comes up you post the same stuff, over & over. So, it must really, if you're honest, p*** you off big time handing those large premiums over? ;D

I don't hand them over the company does! I have piece of mind that I fully covered and not cutting corners!
The company wouldn't be able to pay it if it wasn't doing well ::)

Just had my quote through off Alexandra swan ,£442
-
had a ok quote off More than, u can do it online under modifications > accsesories > water tank fitted
-
Tried many insurers at last renewal and the tank in the back has become a sticking point. Many classed it as a modification, with a few including Gladiator, determining that a modification was ANYTHING that the van / truck didn't leave the factory with, even going so far as to add that they wouldn't pay out ANYTHING for a van that had racking fitted - unless it was a factory fit option.
They argued that if a tank in a pick up was secured it was a modification. I asked, What if it were not secured ? They replied that it was then an unsecured load and they wouldn't cover that either. I asked what the difference between an unsecured tank and a wheelbarrow were? They replied that a wheelbarrow was exempt as it was cargo and could be removed at the other end. I argued that a 25 litre barrel could be removed so was that cargo ? We went round and round for some time with them being pedantic and myself pointing out that I could see why a tank should be secured in a van as it was a risk to the occupants and the only way around this would be to have a series of bulkheads fitted, to which they agreed. I then pointed out that a pick up would therefore be exempt as it has two bulkheads in place already - they went quiet.
Finally I asked Adrian Flux and they said - £440, 2002 Ford Ranger Fully Comp, tank no problem.
-
adrian flux was about 1100 for me paying monthly. More than quoted 645 online if i was to pay in full with modification and water tank fitted, they don't seem that bothered either. aviva wont insure it full stop
-
Direct line have just started van insurance and underwriters would not even quote because they won't cover water tanks. They were not even interested in me carrying barrels.
