Title: Meesage to Moderators
Post by: Neil Grainger on February 12, 2006, 02:44:31 pm
Hello Gents

I was just wondering why part of the criteria for using the Forum is that name of the cleaning business and a rough location are not put on the sytem.

It would make it a lot more transparent and only the people with something to hide would not use the site.

Just a thought

Hi Spot on here, did i start this argument?  I just think the forum should be open, and with 7000 members, many of whom do not take part, there is not a fair exchange.

A classic example is a certain franchiee who has just answered criticism about his system. It appears that this person is aware of what is being said as his quick response indicated, but his frequency of posts considering he has been on here for a couple of years is limited.

In other words is this person sizing up the opposition to further his franchise system at our expense. Neil is absolutely right to mention this matter.

Hi Guys,

I agree it is better to have a complete profile as it is just nicer to know who you are speaking to.

If I meet someone I shake hands and introduce myself.

However it is difficult to compel someone , we have all seen on another forum where 'names' are required ,  that some people blatantly use  psuedonyms.

Cheers

Doug

I agree with Doug, you can not compel someone to identify themselves if they do not want to be.

You have my honest name, whereabouts I am in the country, and that I have another business.

There are plenty of other avenues for someone to improve your business, so to think that they will dramatically improvr from the info just on hear is naive.

If I was in competion I would'nt be telling you guys to put up your prices!!!

I do not beleave it is naive to simply want to know who you are dealing
with. And it should not be a question of compeling someone to give basic
details of who they are, what company if any they represent, and what part of the country they are based. I say if any becouse without that basic information
it could be any joe blogs telling us all a load of jimmy goblins, and has already been pointed out what have these people got to hide. Maybe a change in the rules  to sort it out, What do you think ?

Surely the person joining has the right to remain as anonymous as he/she likes.

Thankfully, we are not dictated too by our government (in comparison to some other countries) and personally, this is how I would like it to stay.

I'll not get into a heated "politcal" discussion with anyone now but I think we all should have the "RIGHT" to be as open or secretive as we like.    Forcing people is bullying them.   Besides, they would leave or lie!

Why is knowing where people are from, so important?

Also, this is the WWW.  Surely no one is naive enough to trust the words of strangers until you get to know them better?

it might be a bit simplistic of me but arn't we here to make friends, learn and hopefully help others. how can anonyminity achieve this.

what do the people who choose to remain anonymous fear,? what possible harm will it do if we know thier real name.

busydaffodil I'd like to know your name because I bet its alot  shorter than the name you've chosen to use ;)

My name is ELIZABETH!

BUSY LIZZY?    replace the Lizzy with the Welsh national flower Daffodil, because I am welsh.

That ok with you?    Cannot actually think of a name longer than busydaffodil!!

Most people on here know I am Liz from Newport, South Wales.   Well, those I talk too and who i have grown to trust a little.

I have nothing to hide.  My email address was removed because there have been instances of things happening.

I defend the right to remain anonymous for those people that, for whatever reason they choose, want to remain so.   Who said FEAR is why they choose their own path?   That is your assumption.   Again, it is ours/their priviledge to remain anonymous & who are we to dictate otherwise????

Staying anonymous stops people from getting to know the personality of someone ?   Knowing a name, would alter that?   You dont need a name to give or receive help.

The reason i started this is because a while back a user called linacol was trying to get marketing information and downloads from us to sell on ebay to make himself money and was trying to con us that he new nothing about carpet cleaning.

Hes the guy that sells the fasttrack stuff on ebay without ever buying it himself in the proper way.

This is why i feel we should know a bit more about each other. You would not give info to people over the phone without knowing a bit more about the person so why do it on here, its not as if this forum is used by none cleaning pros.

your right neil, lets not forget some info on hear big business would consider commercialy senitive and would certainly not post on a public forum, which is funny really as so many on hear seem to consider themselfs buisiess men

we all know there just hairy ass c/c really, lol ;D

In that case, each individual here knows that some members use their right to anonimity, and should therefore post info/flyers/business advice accordingly.
If you are business people, then being a little bit careful should be important.  I always use forums like this assuming the person asking could potentially be my nearest rival.  I'm not saying do not help, just that a little caution is required.  I would not post my website on here, that gives access to my home address, in the same way I wouldn't give a phone caller my personal details, even if he said he was my bank!  Irrelevant of whether the people on here give their names or not!
Irresponsible to assume that by a member posting details of themselves in their profile, it would stop them from obtaining info, using info obtained, etc.

Busydaffodil

Yes i can understand this. I am also a carpet cleaner from Newport, and would also be wary of putting my leaflets on the forum for others to elaborate on and improve to their advantage. After all when manufacturers bring out a new car they test it for a couple of years on the road, but it is heavily disguised, no shiny paintwork, wheel trims etc.

If the press got hold of it, so would the rival manufacturers. This forum is good for technical questions and helping, but i think in future i will be censoring certain information that i put on here.

I hope people are not offended by this statement, but sometimes to get on in business you need the element of surprise and a uniqu selling point. After all why is it out of the 7000 odd members, only a certain number participate frequently, yet the others who are actively watching from the sidelines only very frequently comment about a raised topic.

Busy,

You're going to hate me for this, but......

your not even in the cleaning trade, let alone know anything about carpet cleaning.
What are you doing here??

Gary  :-\ ;)

LOL  Gary!

I'm a housewife and i do cleaning whether it be carpets, cookers or windows.  Is that not enough?!!!!   LOL

Until a few months ago, I ran a successful Industrial Cleaning Company in conjunction with my other business.  But I think you ALREADY know that.
I thought my experiences with Council, etc, along with my down to earth business head, could help others here.  Perhaps I am wrong & should leave?   I assume thats what you mean when you say "What are you doing here?"

Oh well.........

PS I dont do "hate" by the way.

pps I assume you disagree with my opinion on not forcing people to post personal details on an open forum??   I assume this is the reason for your post.

Busidaffodil don't go away you have got so much to give!

I've been in this profession for 18 years some have been  in alot longer but the more experienced cleaners get carried away with 'which machine is better' that your fresh business accuman IS at least teaching me things.

If others aren't listening they are losing out on something special which some companies would charge thousands of pounds for!!!

So shut up and listen everyone!!!!

Don't you want to make some easier and better money?

Liz.

Please do not go.

I cant recall reading any of your posts, but from what you have just said you have a lot of information that could be useful.

At present there might not be anything in it for you apart from keeping in touch with the industry.

Message to Ian Gourlay. Just wanted to say that I understand why you blocked "the real world"....... mostly my postings I am sure.... Having said that it was always my intentions to try to be of help and look for the same....... I am keeping in touch with a few from the discussions to pick their brains and also to have my ideas picked too. At the end of the day we or most of us are carpet cleaners primarily, and I dont have a problem sharing ideas to anyone be it they clean in the same area as I do or miles from it. I was hoping that the same feelings were felt, however....... Best, Dave.

Dave ,

It was not the reason I blocked it.

Regretably one post from a contributor was out out of hand and I had to delete it.

I decided to stop  it to avoid unpleasantness on the Forum

Dave as far asi am concerned you are welcome and I found your posts interesting,as I do Cleaning Co Garry.

As I said diffrent statergies suit diffrent cleaners
