How long do you have until renewal?Could the extra charge be for changing post code,or no off street parking?as well as admin fee.Still a bit steep tho.

I am insured with Liverpool Victoria via A-Plan and never got charged for change of address but did have an increase for insurance due to moving from a sleepy village to a town . Mike

It's this reason that I never use the cheapest, no name, companies that appear at the top of comparison sites.

After doing your comparison site search, always type into google "[company name] customer review". I find this usually gives a good indication of other people's experience of dealing with that company.

From past experience I've found i always end up using the slightly more expensive but recognised companies.

it will definitely be mentioned in the t and c's.  they wouldnt be able to do it otherwise.  the problem is that we very rarely read them all.  you can moan about it all you want but you would have agreed to this previously

My girlfriend moved in with me recently (yeh I know but it too late now she's here)  ;D

She called to tell her insurance company she had moved and they wanted a £25 admin fee for the 5 days remaining on her policy and £75 extra on her renewal. She has only moved about 500 yards from hers to mine.  :o

She told them where to shove it so they cancelled it from that moment, which was not ideal as it was 3.30pm on new years eve.
Anyway to cut a long story (please I hear you cry) she went to the quote me happy website and saved loads. ;D

I had motor ins with co,operative once.

The vehicle I had, developed issues and was sold for s&r. I phoned to cancel, and told me they would be a cancellation charge of £90 which would be taken out of my account on a particular date.

Well the particular date came & I emptied my bank.

I never heard off the insurance again.
