evening guys
i know this has been asked before but is it possible anyone could e mail me a leaflet that has got a lot of results . it's only to get ideas from . im not going to copy anyones leaflet . i could've done that on google images . it's only to get an idea of what works and what doesn't

i've been thinking about my leaflets over the last 12yrs and decided that they are becoming less successful. I now put out 30k to achieve what i was getting with 10k in the beginning.
while I was looking through an old lap top i came across an old photo of a leaflet I used 8years ago so looked back at the response I was getting then.
I had a moment of clarity which I thought perhaps its not that the response was dropping in general it was the leaflet
of all the leaflets I've used this leaflet has given the best response

and great pic with a taski i take it you didn't use it to clean as in your own words low moisture no good.

i used that for agitation, had the same photo on the van.

The clever thing about Mikes leaflet is that there is something for everyone.
Maybe it's the way to go, having offers on suites, carpets oap rates etc.

I have mixed results on leaflets and get anywhere between 0.1% >:( to 0.4% :) per 1,000.

wynne i suppose good results would be 4 jobs in a thousand . that seems to be the figure banded around in most threads. Although i do understand it depends on how regular you deliver to the same areas, how cheap or expensive you are, time of year etc im going full time mid march (been part time for over a year) . so i've got to try and get this right to hit the ground running so to speak . between next week and then i intend to get at least 5k a week out so hopefully by mid march there should be a steady flow of work coming . from what i've been reading evening and weekend solus gets the best responce so that's the way i've got it planned although again i could be wrong .

Richard I don't know the exact figures as I didn't think they were important, I worked on return of cost, I could get 1 job a 1000 but if that jobs was £400 then who cares is the response was 0.1%
10k leaflets kept me in work all week so you could say I was getting 15jobs ( but I didn't get every job i quote so the response was actually 20 calls)so i was getting 1.5 jobs for a 1000 leaflets now its the same for 30k leaflets so my jobs have dropped 3 fold..... but my prices are significantly higher then before so its not as bad as it seams
i pay more for leaflet delivery but my job value is a lot higher

Sounds like you have got a good grasp of what's important. I'd be very happy with 4/1000.
Like Mike I've seen responses go from worthwhile to a loss (on the first job) but it's worth doing along with other things. The most important things are Title and offer. A good way to find what might work in your area best might be a local adwords campaign and just keep testing headlines. Doing this testing with leaflets is too slow, expensive and can't control other variables as easily.
Sometimes I feel what you put on a leaflet has very little bearing on response. Perhaps whats more important in the long run are nailing all the other things like targeting, consist delivery etc.

What was the last service you bought off the back of a leaflet through the door?
I have never used a trade from one. I have bought a few of Lidls weekly items tho.
Perhaps this type of direct marketing has just had its day.

He's right in lots of ways, but you need multiple ways to get new customers and communicate with them as people who were relying on No.1 Google rankings have discovered.

Mike, did you ever get any problems with the 10% off for OAP's?
Wouldnt other non OAP's get the hump that they dont get 10% off? I would have thought that would happen.
Also how do the OAP's really know that they are getting 10% off anyway?
Its not like its a shop where they see the price, but get 10% off. We just pick a price out of thin air and say that is with the 10% off, but if it gets the sale it may be worth trying.
I must say that a few years ago, I did do a leaflet offer with 10% off, and people asked for it, but Im surprised they did because there was no starting cost in the first place!
Just my 2 Euros...

I used to have that offer as well..
I think some people went to rent an oap... because the number of oap's who booked and were at their daughter or sons house was quite phenomenal.. :o :o

I eat in a restaurant that gives 10% oap discount I don't mind, just like senior discounts on rail travel i've never argued with the ticket collector that i want it as well.
I can say that in all the years i did it I never got a single younger person moan they don't get the OAP discount.
I find OAPS to be less cynical about life, they see a 10% discount and and just believe in the honesty of the deal, and i do give them 10% off, it was never craftily added on then taken off.
we should do everything we can to get the older customer, they are nicer and the work is easier

Mike I always thought that leaflet was your best I also thought the other leaflet with the animals gave a confused message for leaflets anyway different on the van and website, you could say leaflets are a different animal.................... Sorry ;D

I would say it has more to do with the Award winning part, voted - Englands' most helpful 2005.
I am looking at targeting a very niche area with leaflets and believe if I utilise something around us working on the Olympic Park it will show credence and credibility - in the same way that the statement does on your old leaflet

You should be aiming for a response rate of 0.05% (1 enquiry for 2000 leaflets).

Hi dan, the response rate should be 0.1 but thanks to the current economy and the rise of the DIY units available to the public, the reputation of it being a specialist field is now some what diluted.
What you have to realise is that consumer choice is a great thing for them but a disaster for you.
Customers are filtered out of the equation before they pick up the phone to you,,,,
200 potential customers have dirty carpets,,,
70 choose to replace when they next decorate.
85 will try and save money by doing it themselves with either their own machine or rental unit.
25 decide carpet is not practical for the current situation and decide hard floor is a good option.
18 decide just to live with it.
An example of a business with no customers filtered off would be,,,
200 potential customers have a faulty boiler,,,
200 ring a gas save contractor to carry the work.

the amount of people that say I wont be getting carpets again or "thank god there's no carpets in our next house" is scary. Even though I have just brought their carpets back to life and given them good value goes over thier heads.

1 in 2000 sounds low.
That's about £65 per customer.

I would say we are averaging around three jobs/1000 but it all seems to depend upon area plus we also post ourselves when we have time and are able to target specific roads.
