Sad to say Rt is not a windows 8 table , it does not run windows 8 . You can only run apps from its store , and a few special program's in desktop mode . ( I thinks it's office program ) . It's confusing to say the least .

The new ones , the "pro" will I think run standard program's but is expected to be expensive . The concept is open to other manufactures and prices will drop , but the take up is slow .

There is starting to be some tablets that do run windows 8 , but it's early days yet .

One thing to note is that current models of Surface Pro (as the Windows 8 tablets are called) have very poor battery life compared to the likes of the iPad. They're also really expensive. I think the prices were starting at about £600 without the keyboard.

Another option would be a touchscreen laptop. I saw one recently for the £500 mark.
