Hi guys
Need to find this answer out
I have a 1000w 220-240v 50HZ
Need to know how much this would roughly cost per hour to run
And how long it would take to heat 250l of water also 1000l
Any ideas spruce I know your good with numbers and things
Cheers Gary got it just now :)
Thanks guys
Ian

1000w is 1kw which is 1 unit on your electricity. 1 unit is roughly 10p, so the heater will cost 10p per hour

nice one thanks lee, will buy some more :)
Now the next question how long would it take to heat ?

Stop penny pinching Ian! Get a hot system fitted, and be done with it, anything else is a compromise.

What sort of temperature?
I used to have 3 500w heaters in my 650L from 10:00-8:30 and would take the temperature up to 30 degs, that should give you an idea of how long they need to be on.

I use a 1kw thermostatic heater to heat a 350l flat tank which is covered with an emergency foil blanket, I put it on around 5pm/when finished for the day, it's 32 degrees by 7am and stays warm all day. Cost is approx £1.50 as stated by Lee, I doubt it's on all night, I imagine it probably takes around 5 hours to heat, to many variables to get an exact time. I would say the emergency blanket definitely improves the performance.

your elec is cheap, the average is 12.7p lol!

Not counting factors like heat loss etc
It takes 4186joules to heat 1kg (=1l) of water by 1c
4186j x 250kg water =1046500 j
1j = 1watt sec so 1046500j = 1046500 w/sec
1046500 w/sec divided by60 =17441 watt minutes
17441 divided by60 =290 watt hours
If you want to raise the water temp by 40 degrees...
290 w/hours x 40 = 11.6 kw of energy to do what you want
So a 1kw heater should take 11.6 hours to heat 250l of water by 40c
X4 for the 1000l tank= 46.4 hours
Heat loss may mean a fair bit longer.
How easy was that! ;D
