surely you will have to fill the tanks, reset the trip counter then read the mileage when diesel warning light comes on? thats what id do.
even 2 vans identical make & model might have different fuel efficiency.

Check mpg on your vehicle on the type of driving then what diesel price is in your area:) only way I could think
-
Ignore mine the other idea is beta:)
-
(price per litre in pence) x (4.5461) ÷ (mpg of vehicle) = pence per mile
-
(price per litre in pence) x (4.5461) ÷ (mpg of vehicle) = pence per mile
what does the 4.561 stand for??
-
im not too fussed about exact price as it can be altered if its not measuring what were putting in the van
-

litres per gallon
For a combo you're looking at about 15p per mile.

Trafic does 500 miles on long runs, but when you are stopping and starting when working more like 300 miles on a tank.

It's 4.5461 and its the number of litres in a gallon.
-
Never had less than 500 on my old trafic, once got more than 600, thats with 650 tank 2 ladders and full rack. New vivaro only had 3 tanks of juice through and 540 ish with no rack but 650 tank in back. computer in van says gonna get 700 plus. yeh, then it goes into the red at 500 ish, must be a big reserve tank to do more than 200 miles, not willing to risk it..

if you have an iphone or android you can download free apps which does everything for you.ie mpg, cost per mile and so on.

If you're calculating via brim to brim then make sure that you check the accuracy of the Odometer.
My car is out by 5% (fast) so for every 500 miles actually travelled it tells me we've been 525 !
Speedometer is fast by nearly 10% - so we haven't been as far or as fast as the data suggests.

Is it a Delorian?

Miles per gallon is irrelevant, as we buy fuel by the liter, best way to look at it is miles per liter or better still, :o how many miles per £1.00 spent. :o

The only other recognised measurement when making comparisons is litres per 100 kilometres - as I live in the UK MPG is a much more quantifiable figure and useful when comparing relative fuel consumption of different vehicles. Until we scrap miles and switch to kilometres then miles per gallon stays very relevant.

I never got over having to pay for fuel in litres, was a lot easier price per gallon . . . . . " those were the days my friend, I thought they'd never end !
-
approx 20p per mile. just what i worked out doing urban driving
