Title: Mobile Phones - a distraction?
Post by: supernova77 on January 15, 2013, 07:40:40 pm
Hi All,

Do you keep your mobile phone on you whilst working?

I've started leaving mine in the van or on silent in my pocket whilst working... Since doing this I've noticed that I'm quicker working during the day as the phone is no longer a distraction, sending / receiving texts etc...

Has anyone else found the same?

Andy  ;)

Used to be.
Get an iPhone. My earphone(s) are in all day.
Good pace of music makes me work at a reasonable pace.
Press the button to talk to Siri and he reads texts out, you can vocally reply and send, if you want to.
Same re emails, especially if you're waiting for one.
Music is a big thing for me though. I get through about 25-30 albums a week with a few favourites that are faster if I need a bit of a kick up the arse.

i allow my workers to use theirs when working. i make sure that the pace of work is high so they soon get tired of texting when working

Use my phone for business and pleasure whilst working and have no probs with staff using theirs also. If however we haven't finished the scheduled work sheet and they've spent 20 minutes on the phone during work time, then we work on 20 minutes after our finish time  ;)

Same here; nothing worse than trying to answer the phone when you're partway through a job and then trying to have a conversation when you're in someone's back garden.

I use an iPod for music - Couldn't work without it now.

But I got into a habbit of replying to every text / answering every call whilst working which was slowing me down.

Phones are a total distraction - i now only answer when back in the van - unless it's the mrs ( and rung twice in 2 mins -
code for urgent ) as i used to lose loads of time taking details for new work.

other half now runs the office and we only have landline on ad's so she deals with all enquires etc..

staff can use phones but only between jobs & no music as you just cant hear whats going on

Haha I can imagine you on a first date Gavin. 'I despise talking to people, do you mind if I just send you an email?'

You can buy an MP3 audio vest (it's got speakers), so you don't need earphones.
