As above how many can you expect to put out per hour or per day in built up areas?

Between 80 and 120 I would say depending on experience ( before someone jumps on and laughs it does make a large difference)

I was a postman for 6 years. It all depends how close the houses/ doors are to each other. I did a round with about 350 houses, 100 houses where the doors were 6 or 7 metres apart(terraced) and the other 250 houses I had to go up short driveways to each door. I was assigned 3 to 3 1/2 to do it which was fairly hard going. Other round I did was mostly terraced in the center of town and I had 500 to do in the same time which was fairly comfortable. So it's hard to tell how long really. The bag shouldn't be too heavy with only leaflets so they should move fairly quickly. I would estimate roughly 120-150 an hour.

125 per hour average - half a dozen leafletters over several months and they all hit the same rate on average. Some areas less, some areas more but that's what it came down to.

What is the most cost effective. distributing Leaflets by hand (125 and hour) or paying the post office to blanket your chosen area.
I ask cause the Post office would charge me £600 +vat (£720) to put 10,000 out .
to hand deliver the same it would take 80 hours of work...
It seems to me that the post office is the way to do it.. or have others tried this and found major issues with it?

Good point. I never look at the rubbish that the postman delivers with the Hate mail !

i am sure you could find a leaflet person that would be willing to work for £360 a week ;) and also they will go through the door on there own rather than with a load of letters and other junk mail. #justathought

Have 5000 houses in my town so took the contract out over 12 weeks 5000 each month, first 5000 went out on 10th of december which recived about 5 new custys from to date which thought was a bit poor but time of year could be a factor. Second 5000 started yesterday so hoping this is gonna be a bit better. The thing is myself, mother and brother never got 1 and we all live in the town so bit worryed they are not all getting mailed so thinking of getting my own man in when this contract finishes prob could get it done cheaper too with gps tracker. Bit soon to be seeing real results yet with such small amount going out but gonna check with some of my custys in different areas of town just to see if they are all going out. The problem is you will never know if they are all going out unless ur doing it urself which is very time consumming or u have someone with gps tracker.

Jeez.. a reply rate of 0.1% im no expert but Im sure that is v poor. or put another way thats 5 customers for 370 quid ..... at say £10 average that will take 6 cleans each before you get near a profit.
Ill be interested to see what your return ratio is on the second set.
If your figures hold true it would certainly make the pavement pounding DIY route more appealing.
Anyone know what the hit rate is likely to be on flyers. Im sure someone said 1% or was that just something I dreamt in between Pamela Anderson and the lottery win last night?????

Some people get 1% but i think the average is around 0.5% It could be the time of year for me. Second lot started yesterday got 1 custy so far so hoping this phone starts to make some noice very soon. :)

i would not base your findings on the date you put them out, possibly the worst time of year as is jan and feb.

Used a postcard flyer that gets a 3 to 4 percent hit rate...

Think my flyers are put inside other larger flyers so could be going in bin without even being seen. If i was doing it again would def employ my own.

I find i get far more return delivering them on a Sunday. People are more relaxed and the leaflet doesn't get mixed up with the post or other junk mail on the return from work.

SimonBurton- How often have you used the postcard technique and how often do you hit that sort of success rate.?
thats 30 or 40 per 1000 leaflets.... :o

When starting up I delivered 15000 over a few months.
They where all professionally designed top of the range leaflets.
I even stupidly offered a free gutter clean to every new custy.
Never got a single phone call.
I then canvassed the same area and got over a 100 new custys
not one asked about the free gutter clean. Lucky for me.
So it shows how much they are read.
I wouldnt blame the royal mail if you dont get any calls I think
unless you are in a area that doesnt have a window cleaner leaflets are
a waste of time.

Not 1 call from 15000 leaflets? what time of year was it? Been reading alot of good posts on leaflets and decided to give it a go this year, my contracts ends in march so if i get more will be delivering them myself or getting someone local. Have an add on gumtree for canvasser so should have someone starting next week, hopefully that brings in more work.

from my experience it never works if you ask somebod to leaflet past the 3 hour mark. by 4 hours theyll be slow and by 4 1/2 will be sitting on a wall or on a swing in the park . i built up my round by leaflets and know most of the dodges that a worker will pull.
dont do it yourself if you are also window cleaning cos it will sap your strength bigtime.

Its not that leafletting doesnt work! ITS WHATS ON the leaflets that makes the differance. Believe me ;)

Wayne It was march when I started to deliver them. Sorry slight mistake
it was 10000 that I delivered 5000 went to the skip a year later.
Looking back im glad that nobody read them offering free gutter cleaning

Not for window cleaning but for carpet and upholstery and domestic cleaning I put out 10,000 through a delivery company in October and got one customer. It will only take me 8.5 weeks to make the money back off that customer but its a shocking return. Got another 10,000 going out this month.....can't wait.
Mike Halliday is the man you want to speak to about leaflets, I think he puts out 30,000 per month, although window cleaning is regular repeat whereas carpet cleaning isn't.

Did all the leaflets definately get delivered ?
Were they gps tracked ?

Apparently they are GPS tracked, I may ask the company to provide details, do you think they will?
