Been toying with the idea for a while of installing a cheapish hot water system in the van
Ive had no experience of using them before
Is there are advantages
Ie better finish / use in cold conditons etc
Whats a good gas system to buy
Costs etc
Is it worth it
-
well iv`e been wfp for 10 years now and have only just set up a hot system and like most things you have always toyed with for a while but kept putting it off for what ever reason i wished id of done it years ago,its not really for any finished results thats just down to your water tds anyway its more the warm water in the cold weathers for me so don`t mess about anymore just DO IT !!! ;D
-
What system did you go for
-
If you have the money and the room in your van then do it .
I have managed just fine in the worst 2 winters for years with cold water , I dont have the room in my truck so wont ever bother as I like having a 4x4. Mike

As you're in CB the benefit of hot may be minimal for you GJ.
Here-it a godsend, once you've used it you won't want to go cold again.
-
I not so sure lanes
Im looking at a sure to clean system for about 200 quid
Most of the work I do on the cb is bar and restaurant windows youll be suprised how much dirt and dust gathers and salts from the sea
I thought it may be easier to shift using a hot system
My friend has a mobile car wash he uses a hot system as it works well removing salts and palm sap etc
Im here at the moment til june anyway so initially I want to use it here
Never used a hot system before was wondering whether they would benefit me
-
i think the best way to put it,
do you wash up in hot or cold water???? ;D
its great, moves dirt faster than cold, great on first cleans, here keeps hands and van warm in winter.
-
I think ill give one a go for 200 quid
Are they easy to fit
-
some are some are not, depends what one you go for.
I got a ecotemp L5, all i had to do it make a little metal fram, bolt that to the side of the van, bolt heater onto that, then just pumb the pipes in, connect the gas, strap gas bottle in, and thats it,

here is a quick video of what i did,

Thanks for your help lads

Are you nipping back to the UK anytime before you buy.
Lads on here with it all over the country, I'm sure someone would demonstrate for you. I'm in Lincolnshire, I'd show you.
Failing that-if its only €200, go for it.

I'm just a bit worried about cracking glass there has been a few cases on this forum

Thanks for the offer of a demo
Thats a valid point re glass cracking how is the water temp controlled
-
i have been using hot for the last 4 days or so
imo its a good addition to have,at the right price,i was lucky in getting mine from Steve Ainger,on this forum for £45.00 its a L5.
it definitely cuts through bird muck etc very quick, nice too have supple hoses, cleans frames better, i dont feel it will clean the windows any better, time will tell
if you were to spend say £2000 on a ultra brilliant system then unless your doing loads of conny roofs, cladding etc i wouldn't bother
but say for a total outlay of £150.00?(L5 from usa plus bottle and fittings) its worth having as an additional tool in the tool box
so for the right price ..yes on balance

The the L5 it is controlled in 2ways, there is a dial to turn the gas up or down then there is a dial that controls the flow of water.
-
So does the gas flow determine the temperature
-
Just googled t hg e l5
I see how it works
I see you can import from the us for 100 quid

Yes you can, not sure where abouts you are, but we get an extra import charge when it turns up in UK!

GJ, cracking glass happens rarely. You're more likely to hear when glass has cracked than when it hasn't so it may seem more frequent.
It's just common sense really.
If it's too hot to put your hand in the flow, turn it down.
If there's a load of steam coming off, turn it down.
If it feels the same temp as your tank, turn it up.
If there's ice on the inside of the window, stick with cold. ;D
Like a few have said-for the extra $-go for it.
Rich, where were you in Lincs? You could have subbed it to me! ;D
Or come round for a brew.

Yer I lived in Alford for 5yrs then Louth for 2yrs, regret moving back to northampton really, but at the time it was the right thing to do!

We just got our fogwash up and running six week ago, cost all in about £200
great investment if you want to experience the difference between hot
and cold washing go and wash the dishes first with cold then hot ;D
