Q2 , am assuming you shouldn't power wash roof if frost is due as it could damage tiles , concret paving etc, what do you think lads ???

There are waterbased roof sealers.
£650 for 4 hours work is the sort of work i would welcome.
The theory behind frost damage is strictly speaking is correct. To conteract this i would use low flow, low pressure, ultra high temperature. Our leave till the spring.
The substrate is then not being saturated and the temperature does two things ,1) the substrate drys Quicker 2) the heat kills of any moss spores etc.
This is the machine we use http://restorative-products.com/thermatech/

thats a proper thing !!! how much does one of then cost ?? £4000 to £5000 ish I guess ?

An old fella customer of mine paid some firm August last year £3500 to paint his roof .... so far they have power washed it and nowt else :( ... scum bags

Hi chris, that looks a cracking machine how many litres of water does it use per minute and how long a hose can you use before you get a significant drop in temperature, it looks far better equiped than a dry steam machine that personally i dont like as they are way too slow
-
We only "rent"(due to cost approx £6000+) these machines as and when we need them. The output is about 8 litres per min and max hose length is about 10/15m ideally.
The machine is generally specified by architects when working for English heritage, natural england etc.
They are ideal for this sort of work due to the low pressure-low flow of them. They are not a "pressure washer/steam cleaner" as such ...

Isn't that just a glorified hotbox?
-
Yep ! But most hotboxes do not get anywhere near 120c even tho' the stats say 150c. I have a lavor boiler it's hot but where near as hot.

They call it DOFF don't they, a glorified name to make it sound exceptionally specialised.
Wouldn't see me spending £6,000.
If 8 litres are going through it will get that hot. Put 8 litres through my 21 litre burner and it will.
It'll have fittings to cope with temp and a flame tube that can handle the temp and the fuel pump will be on high.
-
The DOFF is manufactured by Stonehealth http://www.stonehealth.com/ .
You possibly could achieve the same results with a bit of modification to the equipment we are all familiar with...the problem arises when the client specifies "stonehealths DOFF" system .
This is the"system " Architects require for cleaning most listed buildings by national trust etc.
Stonehealth cornered the market nicely!!!!! Jamie fairchild was the backbone at stonehealth..hence the formation of Restorative Techniques.

- probably not applying any coating... but if 'muppets' pay it >:(
as for frost I cant see any problem but does depend on tile type / age (softness), we have cleaned after frosts but obviously must be 'plus' during the day or it will turn to black ice.. Hot or Cold. Obviously access safety has to be taken into account.
