Hi all
I have recently joined the forum , and plan to start a full time venture at the beginning of April , i know alot of people say it is a bad time to start a business but i plan to leave my job of 16 years and give it ago , crazy may be but if i never try i will never know.
Anyway i am looking at starting a Gutter cleaning business , domestic and commercial , and am currently looking at equipment , i am based in the North West and although this is a huge risk i really need to give it my best shot.
Can anyone give me a rough idea of the cost of public liability insurance for a sole trader in this sort of work.
I have a rough idea what to charge for domestic homes , but this i am still researching.

My PL for everything I do is £165. I doubt if you'll get by just doing gutters - combine this with pressure washing and you'll stand a better chance.

BDCS,
just out of interest, who do you get your insurance with?

Where abouts in NW Andy?
We're with Gleaming Insurance, can't go wrong with them, there's many with them who come on hereand will speak highly of the policy cover.

Another with Gleam, great service so far and brilliant price.

i dont think you can solely survive on gutter cleaning alone, ive had all gear you can mention, like you i thought all overflowing gutters will want cleaning out, not all want to give you money, i have websites, free adds on internet like yell.com etc, if i didnt have my window cleaning customers as my main custom things would be different, fortunatelly it paid for itself around £900 of gear, it went very quiet, so i sold up and made a proffit, i just use tripple alliminium ladders with a good stand off using a harris pole with atachment on from pound shop, quicker and easier than gutter vac setup. if its too high i walk way

I get my PL through the local broker and its through Chaucer. I have an Omni set up but now use a CFM sol3 with carbon poles but ladders still have a place to clear parapit box gutters and the like. I do allsorts to fill the days and because of this never get bored.
