Title: Tattoo ink all over carpet
Post by: Joe W Brown on January 07, 2013, 11:16:07 am
I have a tattoo room carpet to clean. Client has not been putting anything over carpet to protect it, so the whole room is full of little dots of tatoo ink.  (Maybe hundreds of them)

Any ideas for getting it off in reasonable time? It is water based and was responding to mpower with a short dwell, but it was not shifting very rapidly. A few minutes dabbing one single dot of it and it was still vissable.

How would you go about it?

Many thanks

If Mpower is shifting it, give it more time. 10-15 mins.

I agree with Trev..

Mpower needs more than a few minutes to work. Prespray the whole carpet with it.. agitate the bejeezus out of it and leave it for 30-30 mins..

Is this in a shop? A licensed shop in Scotland wouldn't be allowed carpet.

If its a home scratcher be aware that this carpet will also be splattered with blood so take precautions.

How big is the room and are you charging a good price? if there's enough money to take your time I would swamp it with Mpower and give it 30mins dwell time, then clean it see how it  looks, still bad then move up the scale with higher ph & a citrus solvent.

Just what I was thinking, not sure I would want to be cleaning it!!

So solvex and citrus gel will work on water based ink?

I've been working on it for 4 hours now and the ink is still visible.

I started with shockwave, then tried mpower. Shockwave helped a bit mpower (double strength half hour dwell warm) didn't do much.

I've tried mpower spotter, micro splitter spotter, special rx. Nothing is doing much, they help a bit but still very visible.

I'd be very grateful for some advice.

Thanks,
Joe

Joe mate, those products you mentioned wont shift that type of stain.

When you where testing with mpower, you where probably only removing the top layer of paint. Its the last 10% thats always a pain.

Next time when testing part of a stain/stains, make sure it has completely gone before making your mind up on taking on the job.

Like I said before, that job sounded like more trouble than its worth. With more experance you'll learn which jobs to walk away from.

Why not try using a little white spirit (low odour) mixed with hot water in a spray bottle and mist over. You need to use a solvent to remove ink. Works every time for us  ;)

For £50 I'd have left it well alone, but as a learning experience it might we worth it.
