Not too bad of a review!
-
Is the Facelift carbon or glass? as the CLX is a hybrid- 50% glass/50% carbon.
-
They was both the hybrid poles,
At the end of the month I'll be getting the full carbon ultralight pole and doing test with that against the same gardiner poles, plus there I will be doing a review of a brand new pole that's nothing even on the market yet!!!

Thanks for the review.
Unfortunately my experience of the quick release for the CL-X/SL-X is very different from your own. I have 2 x CL-X 18 and an SL-X 35 and the quick release on the SL-X is anything but... the last time I tried to swap it out I was worried I was going to break the pole and I even rang Gardiners and spoke to one of the girls in customer services about it. She suggested it was a known issue and that a kettle of boiling water should help the clamp to expand, which with me and my son swinging on the pole eventually worked. Not good as the SL-X was only a couple of weeks old at this stage and the lack of quick in the release defeated the purpose. Both the CL-X quick releases are fine. At some stage I will get round to sanding the stem of the quick release down to improve it's performance but I was very disappointed.
Despite this I will be sticking with Gardiner poles as I feel Alex is very much involved with the window cleaning community and I like his hands on approach.
You could try adding some stop tape to your facelift pole to cure the over extending problem.

I thought this too. Mine are a bugger to seperate. I'd love to know his maintainance regime to keep a clx in such good condition after three years, mine look like they've just come out of a scrap yard after a year.

That might be worth trying although i've never done that. In my experience once you overextend, especially when on the job it results in a snapped clamp. Works out some where around £20 with postage for a new clamp.

Sorry to hear that Duncan. The simple resolution for this is for us to send you a replacement quick release resi-neck which should have been offered when you rang to discuss the issue originally. A not very quick release (!) resi-neck can very occasionally happen from a production run, if the tolerances of the injection moulded resi-neck are slightly out. Please email me your full name, address and order number to alex@agardiner.co.uk and I will get this sorted for you.

Isnt the spray you use an oil based ptfe spray? if it is i thought it wasnt recommended for use in the poles, it needs to be a dry PTFE spray.
-
Sex on legs!!! That's what I think every time I see it!!!
you need to get out more >:(
It's a pole not a pole dancer :-X
-
Can you use a silicon spray?
-
We are having the adapters changed and trimmed down a little which will solve any sticking or tightness issues. As mentioned, it is sometimes a slight quirk in the manufacturing process, so by over compensating it should be eliminated.
In all honesty the QR on the Phoenix is for future products coming so it shouldn't pose too much of a problem at the moment as there is not much to swap it with!
-
Gardiners need to sort out the poor quality build despatch stage ( clamps losening not great) facelift need to add stop ends to compete with gardiners not to hard its a bit of tap (facelift oversight maybe ?)
From the video the end caps are they a nightmare , tbh gardiners when replacing they don'tx fit and fall off too, ordered twice I ended up cutting them up to fit ( bad batch maybe) but I gave up as waisting my time for a £2 item cost me over £20 wasted time. These hassles are remember ed not just by me.
The good thing Alex needs to work harder or facelift will catch him up.
If facelift sort out good pole hose they will be another step forward as Gardiner pole hose is not great.
Ian
P. s females on pole hose facelift it's the way.
All this is good for window cleaning I respect Alex, facelift have a little more work to do but the way they are going will catch up soon.
-
I guess you're not brilliant at a little diy then Ian?
Plastic end caps can be complicated things.
But if you're not willing to learn no one can help you.
-
Dave I'm fine with DIY.
But should you have too DIY something that you buy ?
I know you don't like anything questionable said about Alex, do you have a crush (bless) but the fact remains this should not happen

Think the poles are better without stop ends, makes it a lot easier if you need to replace a section, clean pole due to grit or add sections on. With the facelift poles you can do this a lot quicker than ones with stop ends, there is a big enough warning colour strip to warn you that it's coming to the end,
-
Ian,
Thank you the feedback, we always find it invaluable.
The current system we have on the Phoenix with no positive stop and even the ends caps, is for easy chop and change of pole size. Should we fix the stops it makes it a lot harder to change the pole sections should you want to add or take away. Same issue with the end cap, it is very simple to stop it from ever coming off the pole - just glue it, but then that adds its own issue should you want to add to the pole at a later date.
This brings us to the major point. If it was universally demanded to have end stops, etc then every Facelift pole would have them! As we seen the is not the case at all, in fact it seems that it is the minority prefer fixed end to non fixed. It's more of a case if what you are used to than which is better.
We have a few developments in the coming months and soon have a method to satisfy everyone!

Thanks for the reply Stephen,
I did'nt know it was for chopping and changing pole sizes, very handy to know.
I am however surprised that the minority prefer endstops.
I would guess the minority are the people that employ ? where did you get that research data from ?
I know without question endstops have cut down on staff damging poles from over extending them.
I have not found the end cap a problem with your pole they are nice quality and the clamps are Awesome
My problem was when replacing endcaps from Gardiners clx, I gave up in the end and fixed it myself.
Thats my only problem I have had with Gardiner poles, I recommend them to everyone.
Do you have a link to your pole range with a price list ?
Are you going to have a version with endstops ? or is it possible to convert them with tape (like Gardiners one ?)
will be interesting to see how the poles stand the time test, Gardiners last ages.

First thing I do with my poles is remove the end stops. They can be dismantled very quickly then for cleaning. I don't normally find overextending a problem. I never work without an end cap. I just wish the Gardiner ones were rubber.
I have one supplied by tekbook or whatever that idiot called his company. The cap however is superb, never wears out, can be stretched to fit and prevents damage to vehicles, windows and the pole itself.

What you mean his hands on Approach, ?
With a post count in excess of 5,500 thousand on these forums, I felt it was fair to describe Alex as "hands on" mate. You will also notice that the moment the big fella himself is made aware of an issue he addresses it. And having watched the review again and based on my own experience I have absolutely nothing but praise for Gardiner Pole Systems.
As Mark points out in his video, the CL-X was almost 3 years old and had been used every day. I have a retired CL-X with the old screw top that I bought around the same time as Mark and, like Mark, I had a problem with a clamp that had come loose. I contact Gardiners at the time and it was explained to me that they'd had a bad batch and that I could either send to pole back for replacement or I could conduct the repair myself and they would put a credit against my account for future purchases, I chose the latter. And, like Mark (as you can see from his video), I used way to much epoxy resin but the pole never failed again over the following 2 years of heavy daily use. I was so pleased with the pole I bought 2 more around 6 months ago and they're also used daily. The clamps are rock solid.
I'm also struggling seeing any issue with the end caps for the CL-X, which are glued by default. I replaced the end cap on the original CL-X once it had worn and it was as good as new once epoxied.
Granted my experience is limited to only 3 years in the industry but all in all I will tip my hat to Alex. His staff are always professional, amiable and helpful and I constantly see new innovation appearing on his website. His products are definitely the ones to beat but competition is healthy right?

Fantastic customer service Alex and thank you very much, email winging its way to you over t'internet as I type. :D

The rubber cap does sound an excellent idea.

No disrespect to the author but this is hardly a Vs review ??? He only compares clamps then it's all about one pole!
