Title: Gas water heater of e bay.Revue
Post by: richard jagger on January 06, 2013, 07:28:24 am
These are the unit that sell at between 82, 128. and 199 pounds.I have now bought two of these units as the second was a none starter  and leaked out of the box , I will return it for my hard earned cash. The  first I thought I would fix as a back up unit. When opening it I realize the bad quality of the unit the furniss cover in which the flame burns is paper thin and after a months uses is brittle and crumbling already. The winter summer setting valve had burst at 60 psi although this unit states it could take much more pressure. So will need replacing and trying on e bay to the supplier have had not joy trying to gets parts as they do not seam to know what part I  need after even sending a pic of the part.
I am loosing the battle to fix this unit if I cannot source the part.I am amazed that this water heater ever got the E U stamp of approval to sell in the U K as it is really flimsy and not fit for the purpose for which it is made.
I will be shopping around for a safer gas water heater but it just proves you get what you pay for.AS the concept of heated water is a good one I will still used hot water to clean windows.AS for this cheap unit I AM OUT. I M O these units are fit for use. They sell for between 82 and 199.and for my safety I will not be using or recommending them to anyone. Now before the other suckers who  also invested in good faith like, shoot me down in flames, ask yourself.Would you use a heater that was so unsafe yourself? ??????????? I rest my case . Good luck  ??? ??? ??? ???

That's why you don't buy cheap gas heaters off ebay!! Lol noteworthy it. Got mine for £140 next day from an UK based firm, at least there is comeback if needed!! Would never buy something like that offers ebay due to safety, gas, fire and fumes you don't want to buy cheap stuff!!!

I looked at them, but the price put me off, plus having to wait ages for it and possible extra tax you have to pay when it gets to this country, buying cheap doesn't mean you save money!

Sorry that you had this problem.

We use a Morco D61b.
Caravanners seem to swear by them.
Bit more pricy but ours has been in for 3 years without even a hiccup.

It is.
There's one above it (can't remember the model off hand) that uses electric ignition rather than piezo.
It does seem a better buy but our one has been fine for ages and its easy as pie to fit and use. No maintenance (for us) either.

Being a piezo does that mean there's always a lit pilot light on it? Unless you turn gas supply off

Yes.
Only takes a second to knock it off then back on again though.
Like I said, the one above is better but this has been great and was cheaper.

Sounds good. Shame it has to have a flue and quite big,

Think that's why I like the L5, small, electric ignition, can be used without flue too.

Same as the L5, costs more, and why do you think they have a cut of??? For safety!!
Mine has a 20min cut off and I've used it now for the last 3months. It's never cut out on my, you never need it running for that long!!

If you do need it for a long time all you need to do is to stop flow for 30secs then turn back on and away you go!!

Either buy the same thing for £180 without the safety feature or buy it for £140 with the safety feature!! I know what I would do!!! My vans worth alot and i dont want to loose the lot!

The 20min cut of would be a pain walking back 100m ever 20mins, I for one very happy with my hot water system and would recommend them to anyone  ;)

Why would you have to walk back to the van, everyone has taps next to the poles they are using, all you need to do is to shut the flow of water off!!

Plus if it over heats then it could cause a fire, then if it dose you wouldnt be covered by your insurance as they haven't got a safety feature fitted! So they only ment to be used outside not in a confined place like a van!
