Hello All
I want to reap the benefits of a digital diary for all my appointments and scheduling. Tablets come to mind. I want it to be my primary data source and able to sync it to my computer for back up. I am out on the road 10 hours a day - so need good battery life. Wi-fi would be good to. Need the abilty to scan diary by day / week/ month/ year as required etc. Instead of typing i might want to "scribe" entries to diary.
Any advice would be great. I currently use a Nokia Mobile (Hybrid Touch), and have a Windows Vista PC. My hardback Letts diary tends to disintegrate around September!
Cheers

That's easy: Google Calendar - it's free, open source, and integrates with every device I know of.
I use it (on my Desktop) with Thunderbird (email client) and the lightning plug-in.
Android - I recommend Pocket Informant software to sync to Google (address book and calendar).
There's loads of choice... and it's free. or very cheap.

Thanks David - had a play with that - it suits. What about the hardware device?
cheers

Apple iPad if you want the best.

Kindle fire Hd

We were in the same boat a few months ago and opted for the new ipad 3, does everything we want plus you can have as many diaries as you want on it, i have mine, the carpet cleaners, domestic cleaners, commercial cleaners, cycle hire business, etc, etc. you can view them all together or individually to see what each person had on for a particular day or week.
I can also just sync the diaries to different people so they know what they are doing and when.
Love it!!!!

If you want a really low cost option, to have a play with Android OS tablets, check this out:

Thanks Ian - but this device does so much more than i need (i think)! Also a bit pricey to risk having nicked from van possibly. Does size of it make it easy to carry about when doing quotes?

Get the smaller ipad mini I used one last week a friend of mine has one I found the retina display screen exellent, I was playing EA sports football and to tell you how good it was Sheffield United beat Barcelona 11-0 so it even exceeds ;D

Just got my son an Ipad mini and it does not have retinal display like Ipad 3 & Iphone ......... but it does have more pixels to make screen appear as good ......... basically an Ipad 2 shrunk down !!
-
Kindle Fire HD, The display is much better than the
IPad mini, and it's a lot cheaper. The good display and
faster processor will be out in about 6 months as the
IPad mini 2, when the IPad mini will become obsolete.

i use my galaxy s3 for google calendar. syncs with the home pc instantly so i know if the wife has booked anything in, calander also connects with my galaxy sat nav so i just click on the next job in calander and it gives me directions. modern technology is just amazing innit?
-
Perhaps you're right Chris I thought it had but the screen was very good the guy's son had the ipad mini and his daughter had a Kindle fire HD IMO the difference was clear the mini won hands down also you do need to know about the operating of it as apple products are so easy to use.

Stick to paper diary and Google calendar.
If it all goes tits up the diary is always there.
If you look after them, my diary has never disintegrated yet.
Also put the basics on phone calendar, cheap as chips.
-
I agree John, I once lost my diary on line fortunately it was a. backed up b. had a paper copy.
Oh and c. I don't have to wear my glasses when punching in on my phone where I can just write in big letters in my diary.

Ipad mini in an otter box is a good option.

Ian
Please could you tell me what diary app are you using as that's what I need to do and I already have the iPad
Thanks
Also Derek I'm thinking of getting the galaxy s3 as my second mobile what Callander are you using
I have the iPhone 5 but was thinking of the s3 to keep things separate how do you find it
-
I just use my iPhone 5 in an otterbox and have google calendar synced with apple's native calendar! I have an iPad 3, iPad mini, Samsung Nexus S and Samsung Galaxy Tab 7. All much and such although personally think apple is far superior! As the old saying goes you get what you pay for.
-
i use this calendar Dave on my lap top and on my phone, syncs immediately as its cloud based.

and i can't fault the S3, best phone ive ever had but i would buy a good case for it, wife dropped hers (dizzy blonde ;D) and a new screen is gonna cost us £140. :o
oh and apart from repairs, all the apps are free which is nice.

Derek get one of these cases bit bulky but bomb proof got one on my iphone brilliant for work.

For those who don't know the difference between the Apple iPad/iPhone and the Android tablet/smartphone machines it is simply one of cost, style and choice... they do exactly the same thing, usually using identical applications from the same (3rd party) developers.
Tin hat time again....

Anyone tried the Google nexus 7 or 10 ?
-
YES! Great bit of kit! There are a lot of Google Nexus Phones and now Tablets, If the device has Nexus in the name it simply means it is pure GOOGLE! As in the manufacturer / provider has not been able to mess with it and put any bloatware or branding on it! So it is as Google meant Android to be! Any Nexus device will also get any OS updates FIRST!
