Title: 4040 question
Post by: SPE on January 04, 2013, 09:01:01 am
Have not used for two weeks so flushed for 45 minutes, tds still 10 ppm higher than it was, question I have is when flushing I still get a small amount of flow from the pure, I have heard this is normal but if I was to shut the pure off comletely whilst flushing would it help to bring the tds down or would I risk damaging the membrane ? Thanks Simon

Maybe just the way mine is set up or the waste pipe diameter or length I have the ability to shut off the pure completely just need to know if this is ok to do ? But thankyou anyway

its normal for the ro to still produce a small amount of pure water when flushing.

Ok thanks I thought that, but would I cause damage if I were to shut down the flow of pure comleteley ? Am thinking it may flush more effectively or is that not the case ?

You would not cause any damage if you shut the product off, but it would not improve the quality of the flushing at all.

Did the membrane suffer any frost damage whilst it was shut-off over the holiday period?

Hi Alex, no ro is in my flat, I do not use a booster pump as space and noise is an issue thus the hf5 has never produced A very low product (32 from 235) it crept up slightly when colder before Xmas to about 36 but now I cannot get lower than 45 after flushing for 45 mins last night .

had it been in an enviroment where the water in it has got warm whilst stood for a week or so that may have caused bactreria to start to build up on the membrane.

Not really I was away 8 days and heating was very low and no radiator in the same room anyway. I shall flush again this evening and see if it improves else I may just need to accept the membrane is on its way out

if the membrane is on its way out the tds will not drop , only rise.

there could have been road works, burst main anything that could make your tds rise, whats the tds going into it ? has that changed at all ?

Its got nothing too do with the length of time it has been stood. Its more than likely the input tds.It sounds like you need another membrane. sorry :(

Wouldnt change the membrane because the tds has went from 36 to 45
As long as it does not rise any further.
It might be caused by a slight drop in your water pressure.
Try running more water to waste when making pure.
