I had a similar problem a while back, loads of selotape on the inside of glass screens in a credit union. Problem was there was also a plastic coating on the inside of the glass as well and I couldn't get the selotape off. In the end I gave up on it.

Meths and a cloth should do the job.....

white spirit, then wipe it off job done ;)

Sticky stuff remover works well, my mum got me some from kleeneaze book, works a treat! Even the magic sponges work well to I found.
We once did a massive B&Q store - every pain of glass had old tap on from posters, problem was the posters were massive so alot tape was used as the sun would make the posters full off. When we started the what I thought 5 hr job - found it wasn't normal tape used by industrial carpet tape!

Maplins do a stuff that removes labels, stickipad residue and the like.
I've been using it for years and have never found anything to beat it.

Petrol for cigarette lighters. Never used it on old sticky tape but My wife works in a high class jewelers and they use it al the time for taking sticky marks off of glass.. Works a treat

I use a spray that i bought from Lidl. It is called Powerfix sticker and glue remover.
It has a lemon/citrus smell to it. Not a household cleaning product, it comes in a small aerosol can with the standard X hazchem warnings.
I use it in small areas at a time as it does evaporate fairly quickly.
Here's a link to some more info although this particular item has ended:

keep it simple, soapy water and a sharp scraper has always worked for me if you wet the window and leave for a couple of minutes it does help soften tape a bit so it is removed easier

Scraper is fine on clear glass - a lot of the ones i do have grafix on them and the scraper would damage these - beats me why
the staff have to tape stuff on the glass all the ruddy time
