Did a job in a pub yesterday the carpet from the kitchen through service area about 4 x 5m had a build up of years of grease it was black tar like I told them it would be better to replace how ever after doing the rest of the carpets i said i'll have a go put down a hot prespray & agitated didn't budge used a scraper and it came off in sheets then presprayed again and extracted with serious hot water got all the colors back and carpet in great shape custy coundnt believe it. He knew it will cost him for the time spent and was happy to pay. Question ? have any of you guys come accross this and what would you have used to break up this hard black fat build up. Time taken was 2 hrs
By the way all the best for the new year to you all

Do a search for 'blacktop'

It's the dreaded Blacktop it's not just grease it sugars from drink etc you need a heavy soil breaker with agitation or i even sometimes get the steamer out and loosen it that way before cleaning.

If its thick I will prespray with anything but get down on my knees. And score he serface with a horse rake, breaks up the surface, then hit it with high heat.
If it doesn't come out the first time just carry on with the rest of the carpet, then go back to it in 20 mins and give it another go. When I rinse with F90 the 20mins wait allows the F90 to keep working on it while I clean the rest of the carpet.
Too many people try and get it out all at once, I prefer a stepped approach, just keep nibbling at it

Prespray with a wicked mix that turns it into a must infront of your eyes 8) then smash it with the truck on high heat ;D

I had one in a pub that was re-opening, i could not use a rotary to agitate because of the carpet, seems all over the shop and it was getting a bit thin, must of been in 30 years. They just told me to try my best and i got them to sign a disclaimer. Not only was it black top, but they had been doing building work for 6 months, so loads of ground in dust, cement ect, it was like cleaning concrete. I used hot strong powerburst and citra boost mix , i mean hot, i used a smaller hwe machine to pre-spray it was that hot, citrus gel aggitated first with this beast - ;D

and lots of elbow greese with a hard hand brush on my knees. Then after extracting with very hot water i had 4 air moovers on it. This was a last resort clean, so everything was overkill, but it worked, they were amazed tbh and so was i, their must have been 30 builders stood there at the end open mouthed and i got a hell of a lot jobs from it, so i'm glad i did'nt turn it down. ;D

if I'm honest i just use my £50 rotory, a bonnet, and a very light mist of Mpower (sometimes I don't even give it a light mist, I just shout.... "MPOWER...MPOWER.....MPOWER" at the carpet) ......takes that blacktop out first time and is dry in 30mins

Done a few in my time the only way you get very hot prespray down is via a watering can with a fine rose ;D ;D :-X :-X

On blacktop dwell time is the key to every success ;) 8) 8)

Thats the type of job that Prochem PowerBurst loves. Apply, aggitate and allow to dwell. Obviously depending on the type of extraction equipment used you may need to repeat but PowerBurst is the chemical of choice for that type of work.
